Joe Russo Wants Marvel Fans To See Endgame Opening Weekend To Avoid Spoilers

Joe Russo Wants Marvel Fans To See Endgame Opening Weekend To Avoid Spoilers
Hawkeye in Endgame

The stakes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe could not be higher. With Captain Marvel in the rear view, there's only one movie left in Phase Three. Avengers: Endgame will be the cumulation of the entire MCU thus far, and will finally catch up on the surviving heroes in the wake of Thanos' mass murder. Marvel Studios has been keeping its cards close to the chest for the last year, so the general public has no idea what might go down during the highly anticipated movie.

But the wait is nearly over, as Endgame is set to arrive in less than a month. The marketing material has been purposefully vague, not revealing much about the contents of the Russo Brothers' highly anticipated blockbuster. Everyone involved seems to be worried about spoilers, including The Russo Brothers themselves. Joe Russo recently encouraged fans to see the film on opening weekend in order to avoid spoilers, saying:

I think this one has even more spoilers than the last one. This is a culture that wants everything now, and it’s getting worse. The world is connected via social media, and information travels within seconds. If you’ve been following along with this narrative for 10 years, you’re going to want to protect yourself. It’s best to go in clean. I encourage people to go opening weekend because I’m sure everything is going to hit the internet the moment the movie hits the screen.

When it comes to the biggest blockbuster of the year, timing matters. So Joe Russo wants the fans to run to theaters during Endgame's first weekend of showings. Because we all know that the internet and social media isn't a safe place for spoilers.

Joe Russo's comments to Box Office Mojo make a great deal of sense, as the public knows little to nothing about the contents of Avengers: Endgame. As such, basically every frame of the upcoming blockbuster can be considered a spoiler. Infinity War showed that the Russo Brothers were pulling no punches when it came to their pair of blockbusters, so the narrative possibilities and consequences are totally in their court.

Avengers: Infinity War saw a ton of characters perish, both by the physical hands of Thanos and by The Decimation. This gives the chance for the surviving heroes to carry the events of Endgame. But smart money says there will be more character deaths in the new movie. Many of Marvel's biggest stars are coming to the end of their contracts, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. So it seems more than possible that they could perish in order to save the universe and hopefully reverse the affects of the snap.

Luckily, answers are coming. But in order to see Avengers: Endgame without Twitter ruining major plot points, you may want to head to theaters as soon as it hits theaters next month. At least, that's Joe Russo's suggestion.

Avengers: Endgame will finally arrive in theaters on April 26th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Star Wars’ Admiral Ackbar Is Not Happy About His Death In The Last Jedi

Star Wars’ Admiral Ackbar Is Not Happy About His Death In The Last Jedi
Ackbar in The Force Awakens

The Star Wars franchise has been on a hot streak over the last few years, ever since Disney acquired the rights to Lucasfilm. A ton of new and exciting additions to the beloved space opera have already been made, and the property is showing no signs of slowing down. The sequel trilogy will end with The Rise of Skywalker, and J.J. Abrams' return to the franchise will also complete the nine-film narrative that started with A New Hope.

The current trilogy brought back plenty of familiar faces, including Rebel leader Admiral Ackbar. While fans were delighted to see him have a bit part in The Force Awakens, he was unceremoniously killed off in The Last Jedi, when Leia's bridge was attacked by a TIE Fighter. Actor Tom Kane has voiced Ackbar since the death of Erik Bauersfeld, and recently revealed his dismay with the character's fate, saying:

I’ve been Ackbar for about six years... and I was not really thrilled about how they blew him out the side of the ship. I’m like, ‘Who is this Holdo woman? Nobody knows her, no one’s invested in her — who is she? Why is she saving the fleet?’ If anyone was gonna save the fleet it’d be Ackbar.

It looks like Tom Kane would have preferred for Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Holdo to have been excluded from The Last Jedi, in favor of giving Ackbar the big heroic death sequence. Unfortunately, he perished in the shocking opening sequence.

Tom Kane's comments from his recent appearance at Star Wars Celebration (via Comic Book) seem to echo some of the fan complaints for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson purposefully subverted fan expectations, and provided surprise after surprise in his divisive sequel. That was shown early during the movie's runtime, as the Resistance Leaders were pulled into the vacuum of space after being hit by a TIE Fighter.

While Leia would manifest her Force abilities and get to safety, Admiral Ackbar wasn't so lucky. And it was his loss that ultimately made way for Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Holdo to take control of The Resistance while Leia recovered. If Ackbar had survived, Holdo's conflict with Poe would have never occurred. What's more, she wouldn't have gotten that iconic moment of self sacrifice during The Last Jedi's third act.

Holdo's big sacrifice, which Tom Kane seems to take umbrage with, brought the most sensory moment of The Last Jedi. As the movies' various conflicts came to a head, the Resistance leader turned on her ship's hyperdrive and used it to ram through the First Order forces, including the massive ship Supremacy. The movie was suddenly silent, as a flash of light showed her destructive power in Holdo's final moments.

You can't blame Tom Kane for wanting Admiral Ackbar to get that already iconic Star Wars moment. Ackbar has been with the franchise for a long time, and his "It's a trap!" line has been the subject of countless memes. But he was less of a presence in The Force Awakens, and ultimately perished without much fanfare during The Last Jedi's first big battle scene.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will arrive in theaters on December 20th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

It: Chapter Two Director Andy Muschietti Reveals How The Adult Losers Club Was Chosen

It: Chapter Two Director Andy Muschietti Reveals How The Adult Losers Club Was Chosen

In 2019, director Andy Muschietti is bringing the second chapter of IT to the big screen. This time around, hes also bringing together the adult version of the Losers Club, who will share screentime with their younger counterparts, the stars of IT: Chapter One. Weve known for a while now the casting for several of the adult Losers is uncanny, but at CinemaCon 2019, Andy Muschietti revealed how he decided on who to cast in terms of the adult actors in the movie.

I wanted the adult Losers to be believable and that people believed that were talking about the same people. It was a journey of finding and looking. Im proud to say that all of the people I wanted in the movie finally landed in it. It was incredible to find that all the people standing here were so excited to be a part of it.

When looking at casting, Andy Muschietti also mentioned he was looking for the same energy and DNA between the youngsters and the older cast while IT: Chapter Two was coming together.

At CinemaCon 2019, the audience became the first to see both iterations of The Losers Club come out onstage together. Jessica Chastain stood next to Sophia Lillis, James Ransome next to Jack Dylan Glazer, James McAvoy (although Jaeden Martell was not present), Bill Hader next to Finn Wolfhard, Isaiah Mustafa next to Chosen Jacobs, and Jay Ryan next to Jeremy Ray Taylor.

IT: Chapter Two An Updated Cast List

The whole gang was onstage together and even just looking at them side-by-side, a lot of the castings are pretty uncanny, particularly Bill Hader and Finn Wolfhard. Hader was actually cast thanks to Wolfhards wishes and Hader credited the younger actor for landing the role. This happened after Wolfhard admitted he just started thinking about an actor who he felt was already like his character Richie. He said:

We always talked about it. We didnt know for sure if there was going to be a Part 2 or anything. Well I didnt at least, and I was like, you know, Richies funny to himself.

Quipped Bill Hader,

Yeah, Richie thinks hes funny. Whos an asshole who thinks hes really funny? Whos a guy who laughs at himself a lot? Who laughs at his own jokes a lot? Theres only one guy in the universe.

Although he's joking above, Bill Hader ultimately credited Finn Wolfhard for thinking of him before casting commenced. Wolfhards not the only one who picked out the actor he wanted to play an adult version of him. Sophia Lillis had previously said she wanted Jessica Chastain for the role of Beverly and that panned out as well.

While the rest of the castings didnt play out exactly like the kids originally guessed, theres no doubt IT: Chapter Twos cast is stacked. Now well just have to wait and see how it pans out on the big screen.

The good news? Along with the cast, CinemaCon also revealed some first look footage at IT: Chapter Two with a scene featuring Jessica Chastain. If youd like to get a little more spoilery than that, we have you covered.

Proving that what we do in life really does echo in eternity—especially if it earned us a truckload of Oscars and cash in the process—Ridley Scott has confirmed that he's moving forward with plans for a Gladiator sequel.

All James Bond Movies In Order: From Sean Connery To Daniel Craig

All James Bond Movies In Order: From Sean Connery To Daniel Craig
Sean Connery as James Bond in Dr. No

Long before the MCU, Harry Potter, and the Star Wars franchises, there was Bond, James Bond. The one and only 007, licensed to kill. For almost 6 decades, the British super-spy James Bond has lit up the silver screen.

Six different actors have portrayed the cold-blooded killer willing do anything for Queen and Country: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig have all put their own unique twist on the character over an incredible 24 (soon to be 25) films. This is the full list of James Bond movies in order with a little bit of information about the 25th due in 2020.

In the interest of full disclosure from the top, this is a complete list of all the official James Bond movies in order that have been produced by Eon Pictures starting in 1962. You won’t see David Niven or Barry Nelson on this list, nor does Never Say Never Again fit in anywhere. If you want to argue whether those should be included (they shouldn’t), feel free to do so in the comments. This also isn't a ranking, you can find that here.

The Sean Connery Era

Dr. No (1962)

Dr. No. The one that started it all. In it, James Bond, played by Sean Connery, is sent by MI6 to Jamaica to investigate the death of a station chief in Kingston. While in Jamaica, fans of the series are introduced to Felix Lieter, Bond’s counterpart in the CIA and a character that would recur in the series frequently. Bond also meets Honey Ryder, played by the incomparable Ursula Andrews, the first official “Bond Girl.”

After meeting, Bond and Honey are kidnapped and taken to a secret lair where the villain Dr. No meets with other SPECTRE members to discuss their latest plans to take over the world. Of course, 007 foils the plot and saves the day and gets the girl. As the series was based on the novels by Ian Fleming, many of the tropes that have become ingrained in the series are already a part of it in the very first film, like the girls, the booze and the arch villains.

From Russia With Love (1963)

The second film on the list of James Bond movies is From Russia With Love, also starring Sean Connery as James Bond. Released just one year after Dr. No, From Russia With Love continued to introduce fans to all the iconic pieces of the franchise. For the first time, fans met the head of Q branch, played by the legendary Desmond Llewelyn, a role he would play in an incredible 17 Bond films over the years.

The plot takes Bond from London to Istanbul to Belgrade to Venice as he fights the evil SPECTRE alongside Bond Girl Tatiana Romanova, played by Daniela Bianchi. From Russia With Love also introduces Ernst Blofeld as SPECTRE's “Number 1.” Blofeld would go on to be single most iconic Bond villain, appearing in five movies and played by five different actors.

Goldfinger (1964)

Continuing the run of releasing a movie a year, 1964 brought Goldfinger. When ranked, this film probably comes out on top the James Bond movie list most often. That's saying a lot considering how long it's been since its release and all the content that's followed.

Featuring an iconic theme song sung by Shirley Bassey, an iconic villain in Auric Goldfinger, an iconic Bond Girl with the most famous of names, Pussy Galore, played by Honor Blackmon, and an iconic henchman in Oddjob, Goldfinger is, to say the least, iconic. James Bond travels from London to Miami to Kentucky chasing the supervillain Goldfinger and in the end, saves the day when he foils Goldfinger's plan to rob Fort Knox.

Thunderball (1965)

Released just 14 months after Goldfinger, Thunderball might have the campiest opening of any of the Connery James Bond movies, with Bond escaping while using a jet pack. It’s about as silly as Connery’s version would ever get, though it still falls well behind Moore’s general silliness.

Bond takes on the supervillain Emilio Largo as he attempts to steal nuclear bombs on behalf of SPECTRE with help from his mistress, Bond Girl Domino, played by Claudine Auger. Nearly two decades, Warner Bros delivered a second adaptation of the original Thunderball novel, with Sean Connery playing Bond once more. So Connery has the distinction of getting to perform in two different versions of one spy tale.

You Only Live Twice (1967)

Filmed mostly in Japan, You Only Live Twice was supposed Sean Connery’s final Bond movie, and it would be, at least for a little while. He resigned halfway through filming, announcing that he would not return in the next film.

This classic was somewhat controversial because children’s author Roald Dahl was chosen to be the screenwriter, as well as the decision to make Bond look and "talk" Japanese in a somewhat racist scene that has Sean Connery essentially in "yellow-face." It also features the... interestingly named Bond Girl “Kissy Suzuki” and once again, James Bond tangles with his old foe Ernst Blofeld, played this time by the great Donald Pleasence.

The George Lazenby Era

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)

For the first time on the screen, Sean Connery was not the star of a James Bond movie. After Connery announced he was leaving, the producers went on a search for the next Bond. They landed on Australian George Lazenby, and they offered him a seven picture deal. Lazenby's agent famously told him that he thought the franchise wouldn’t last into the '70s and he didn’t want him to be tied to it for long, so he only made the deal for the one film, and that would come back to haunt both of them.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service tends to get a bad rap from some fans, but it’s actually a pretty great James Bond movie with everything a fan should want. Blofeld is back, this time played by the legendary Telly Savalas. The Bond Girl, Tracy, played by Diana Riggs, actually becomes Mrs. James Bond in the movie. George Lazenby has a little more of an edge to his version of Bond, and this one of the darker films in the series.

The Sean Connery Era 2.0

Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

Sean Connery is back! After George Lazenby’s one-film deal expired, Eon and United Artists went all out to get the beloved Connery back. Charles Gray, who played an ambassador to Japan and friend of Bond’s in You Only Live Twice, also returned to the series in Diamonds Are Forever, this time as the evil Ernst Blofeld.

There were not one, but two “Bond Girls,” both with classic names: Tiffany Case and Plenty O’Toole, played by Jill St. John and Lana Wood, respectively. Also, for the first and only time, gambling legend James Bond visits Las Vegas, where he dines at the… Circus Circus? Oh well.

The Roger Moore Era

Live And Let Die (1973)

For just the second time, Sean Connery wasn’t in the starring role in the newest James Bond movie. Roger Moore became Bond and he would go on to make the role truly his own, playing it much campier and looser (and less edgy) than both Connery and George Lazenby had before him. Live And Let Die marked a big change in the franchise as Moore was likely to be playing the role for a while. Not only did he play the role different but the tone of the movies changed to match it. The characters became a little more over the top, as did the stories.

Live And Let Die has one of the most bizarre stories as the producers attempted to cash in on the Blaxploitation genre that was popular at the time. Although Yaphet Kotto is excellent in the two roles he plays as the villains, the whole thing is rather bizarre. Jane Seymour is one of the best to every play a Bond Girl though, as Solitaire.

The Man With The Golden Gun (1974)

James Bond returned the next year in The Man With The Golden Gun, starring Roger Moore once again. The titular character, named Francisco Scaramanga, is an assassin with James Bond’s name on one of his golden bullets (literally). He is played by the great Christopher Lee and his main henchman was the iconic Nick Nack, played by the legendary Herve Villechaize.

Maud Adams makes her first appearance in a James Bond movie as Andrea Anders, and once again, there is a classic Bond Girl character name – Britt Ekland plays Mary Goodnight. So yeah, there are definitely enough familiar elements in this movie.

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

The Spy Who Loved Me is the tenth James Bond movie in just 15 years. This one has everything a Bond fan could want: a classic villain in Curd Jurgens as Stromberg, a stunning Bond Girl in Barbara Bach as Triple X (eat your heart out, Vin Diesel) and maybe the most infamous henchman of all time, Richard Kiel as Jaws.

It also happens to feature an amazing theme by Carly Simon. One fun fact about The Spy Who Loved Me is that Bond producer Albert “Cubbie” Broccoli first approached Steven Spielberg to direct it, but he turned them down as he was in post-production on Jaws (the movie, not the henchman).

Moonraker (1979)

Moonraker has the dubious distinction of consistently being at or near the bottom of the list when the James Bond movies are ranked. The truth behind it may explain some of the problems. The plot is ridiculous. It’s James Bond in space. And since it’s a Roger Moore film, it’s already pretty campy even before they even get to space. That was a terrible idea, but it was also a rushed one, which made it worse.

Originally the follow-up to The Spy Who Loved Me was supposed to For Your Eyes Only. Instead, the producers changed gears on the heels of the massive success of Star Wars in 1977 and put super-spy James Bond an astronaut in space. It wasn’t a good decision. It did mark the return of Richard Kiel as Jaws though, and Moonraker also features the most ridiculous Bond Girl name of the entire series – Dr. Holly Goodhead, played by Lois Chiles.

For Your Eyes Only (1981)

James Bond entered his third decade on the screen with For Your Eyes Only, and while it still was a trademark Roger Moore-era movie, with humor and over-the-top moments, it was a return to good ideas and good movie-making after the disaster that was Moonraker. It opens with James standing at his late wife Tracy’s grave. It’s the only time in the whole series she is referred to, outside of On Her Majesty’s Request.

Shortly after that, James finds himself on a helicopter be remotely controlled by none other than his old nemesis, Ernst Blofeld, who is in a wheelchair and whom Bond eventually deposits down a smokestack as the opening credits role. Classic. Also – keep a sharp eye out for Tywin Lannister himself, Charles Dance, from Game Of Thrones, who plays one of the baddies chasing Bond in Italy.

Octopussy (1983)

Yep, this one is usually most famous for its name. Somehow, it got past the censors and ended up with a PG rating. Octopussy was released the same year the rival James Bond movie Never Say Never Again, with Sean Connery returning the role, as mentioned earlier.

Octopussy won the box office race and Never Say Never Again was sort of ignored by most Bond fans other than as a curiosity. Octopussy is also the only Bond movie filmed in India, which makes it worth the watch alone. It saw James Bond being tasked with following a general who is stealing treasures from the Soviet Union, but it eventually turns into a race to stop the detonation of a nuclear weapon.

A View To A Kill (1985)

A View To A Kill was the 14th James Bond movie of the series as well as the seventh, and final, for Roger Moore’s career as 007. Moore is still the highest tally among all the actors that have played James Bond. The thing that stands out the most in this mid-'80s romp is, by far, Christopher Walken’s turn as the blonde-haired supervillain Max Zorin.

His goal is to cause an earthquake that wipes northern California off the map while he rides around on a blimp with his name on it. The one of a kind Grace Jones takes a turn as both a Bond Girl and a henchperson in this as the intense May Day. The plot and the movie are the epitome of over-the-top camp that defined the Roger Moore era.

The Timothy Dalton Era

The Living Daylights (1987)

When Roger Moore retired as 007, the odds on favorite to replace him was Remington Steele star Pierce Brosnan. Eventually though, Brosnan would be locked into his contract for the show and the producers went with Timothy Dalton as the star of The Living Daylights. The way Dalton played James Bond was a big departure from Moore. He played him with more an edge, a tougher, more realistic,\ and angrier Bond.

Over the years, Dalton’s Bond has gained more prominence among fans, but initially it was panned. Also of note, Joe Don Baker plays a villain in the movie, but he would return in the Brosnan era as a CIA agent named Jake Wade. It should also be noted that The Living Daylights marked the return of Bond's classic car, the Aston Martin, and would also be the last movie to use the title from an Ian Fleming story until 2006's Casino Royale.

Licence To Kill (1989)

The second and final James Bond movie for Timothy Dalton is one of the most under-appreciated films of the series, Licence to Kill (yes, we're going with the British spelling here). It continued exploring the darker and more violent side of 007, which really played to Dalton’s strengths.

One very notable thing about the cast, the henchman Dario is played by a very young Benicio del Toro in one of his very first roles. Carrie Lowell, later of Law & Order fame plays the Bond Girl. Felix Leiter also came back for another round of action, and he wouldn't be seen on the big screen again until Casino Royale.

The Pierce Brosnan Era

GoldenEye (1995)

Due to financial and legal wrangling, Licence To Kill would be the last James Bond movie for six years, and in the intervening time, a lot of major changes happened Arguably the biggest was the producers (now including Barbara Broccoli, taking over for her father) landing the guy they wanted back in the '80s, Pierce Brosnan, to play the British secret agent.

His first movie, GoldenEye, was a huge hit as the public was excited about the first Bond movie in years AND that Bronsnan finally had the role many thought he should have had years before. Another major change was the role of M. For years, the role was played by Bernard Lee, then in the '80s, by Robert Brown. For GoldenEye, the producers would cast a woman in the role, Dame Judi Dench, who would go on to make the role all her own. The big villain in this is also a Game Of Thrones alum, Sean Bean.

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Tomorrow Never Dies is most notable for its cast. The villain is played by yet another future Game Of Thrones star, Jonathan Pryce and Teri Hatcher plays the Bond Girl. The late magician and actor Ricky Jay plays one of Pryce’s henchman.

Eagle-eyes viewers can also pick up two future Downton Abbey collaborators, Hugh Bonneville and Julian Fellowes, in small roles as well as a young Gerald Butler in a small role as a British sailor. As for the story, it revolves around James Bond trying to prevent World War III from unfolding. So, you know, an average weekday for him.

The World Is Not Enough (1999)

One of the most universally panned James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough suffers from a weak plot (the story sees James Bond protecting the daughter of a recently-assassinated billionaire) and a weak acting performance from Bond Girl Denise Richards, despite her excellently silly Bond Girl name, Dr. Christmas Jones.

Robert Carlyle is excellent as the villain and this film also marks the first appearance of John Cleese as “R.” Sadly, it would be the last James Bond movie for Desmond Llewelyn as Q. Llewelyn was killed in a traffic accident shortly after the movie was released.

Die Another Day (2002)

Die Another Day marked the final James Bond movie with Pierce Brosnan as 007. It is probably most famous for Halle Barry’s appearance as the Bond Girl Jinx Johnson and her scene that recreated Honey Ryder’s famous scene in Dr. No when she walks out of the ocean in a bikini. That scene served as a tribute to the entire series, which was celebrating its 40th anniversary.

It also marked the first time the series starred John Cleese as Q, the first time the role was played by someone other than Desmond Llewelyn. Madonna also plays a small role in the film, in addition to providing the theme song.

The Daniel Craig Era

Casino Royale (2006)

2006’s Casino Royale was the first major reboot of the James Bond film series. It restarted the timeline and it starts with new Bond star, Daniel Craig, as a newbie “Double O” which M, still played by Judi Dench, is hesitant that the correct decision was made by promoting him and granting him a license to kill.

The reboot, by almost any measure, was a huge success as critics and fans praised Craig for the gritty realism with which he played the role. Casino Royale also introduces the wonderful Jeffery Wright as old Bond’s old CIA buddy, Felix Leiter.

Quantum Of Solace (2008)

Quantum Of Solace, the second Daniel Craig film, was a bit of a disappointment on the heels of Casino Royale. It features a rather forgettable villain, played by Mathieu Amalric and a rather forgettable Bond Girl, played by Olga Kurylenko.

But, there is another Bond Girl in the film with another classically silly name – Strawberry Fields, portrayed by actress Gemma Arterton. Judi Dench and Jeffery Wright reprised their usual roles as well. Something to look out for – directors Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso CuarĂ³n both make cameos in the film.

Skyfall (2012)

After more behind-the-scenes financial issues, mostly having to do with money problems for MGM, which owned the rights to the James Bond films, it took four years to get Skyfall made. But the wait was worth it, as it was one of the very best in the whole series. Just for starters, the theme song by Adele is fantastic, and it deservedly won an Oscar for Best Song.

Javier Bardem plays the villain and the film introduced a new, younger Q in keeping with the rebooted series, played by Ben Whishaw. Ralph Fiennes as makes his first appearance in a Bond movie as Gareth Mallory, a member of Parliament that oversees MI6. In one of the most emotional moments in the entire series, Judi Dench, as M, dies in the arms of James Bond.

Spectre (2015)

What’s a good reboot without the re-introduction of a classic villain? In the James Bond world, that can only mean one person and one organization, Ernst Blofeld and SPECTRE.

For the first time since the 1970s, The Joker to James Bond’s Batman was back in this Sam Mendes-directed film. In this take, Christoph Waltz puts his spin on the character as the 5th actor to play the role. While the Spectre is not perfect, the opening sequence alone, shot in Mexico City, is worth the price of admission. Also, it marks Ralph Fiennes' Gareth Mallory making his first full appearance as M, as his career transition happened at the end of Skyfall.

Bond 25 (2020)

Production has just begun for the 25th installment of this unstoppable series. In all likelihood it will mark the end of the Daniel Craig era as he has said it will be his last. Not much else is known about it, except that Rami Malek will star as the villain; other newcomers include Ana de Armas, David Dencik and Lashana Lynch; and the familiar faces returning include Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris, Rory Kinnear, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Jeffrey Wright.

We can’t wait to see what is in store for the cinema’s greatest secret agent. Let's just hope that Daniel Craig's recent injury isn't very serious and the film stays on its timeline.

So there it is. The entire list of (soon to be) James Bond movies in order. 25 films in a remarkable franchise that continues to find audiences, both new and old after an amazing 57 years. What will the future hold? No one knows for sure, but it’s a safe bet that James Bond isn’t close to retirement, at least not on screen.

6 Criticisms People Have Of Avengers: Endgame

6 Criticisms People Have Of Avengers: Endgame
Captain America in Avengers: Endgame fighting Thanos

Minor spoilers for the new Marvel movie can be found in this article.

Avengers: Endgame is killing it at the box office, and it's looking more and more likely it will become the highest-grossing film of all time. There are plenty of viewers who think the film is the ultimate swan song to the first 10 years of the MCU, with plenty of exciting and heart-wrenching moments for audiences to chew on. Those voices have expressed themselves well enough over the internet so far, but what about those who were disappointed by certain aspects?

These voices are quieter, and possibly keeping their opinions to themselves as opposed to the internet, particularly given the recent spoilers climate. Now that the Russos have given the OK on spoiling Avengers: Endgame, we're happy to talk out more specifically what we've seen and heard from fans as them feel more emboldened to share the issues they had with the MCU movie. Here are some that are out there already. Avengers lovers, assemble your counterpoints.

Avengers: Endgame Is Too Long

Audiences surely knew of Avengers: Endgame's roughly three-hour runtime ahead of their viewings, as headlines about not having a chance to pee circulated the web in the days before release. With hype like that, and spoilers on the movie kept largely under lock and key, many may have been glued to their seats denying themselves of snacks, bathroom breaks, or the birth of their children in fear of missing some huge MCU moment, but ended up underwhelmed by how the lengthy movie ran on and on and on.

In the case of one USA Today writer, Avengers: Endgame's runtime may have been justified had some of the plot been committed to re-introducing some characters. Instead, there were deep cuts and cameos by characters even those who had seen a vast majority of MCU movies may have struggled to remember. Other folks may just not have the patience for a three-hour movie, which is likely why studios tend not to make a lot of them.

Avengers: Endgame Has A Lot Of Downtime

Superhero movies are, typically, big on action. Avengers: Endgame does have one of the largest action sequences in the MCU, but this Avengers entry does have significant chunks of downtime between its fight scenes (the lengthy runtime likely contributes to this as well). The common complaint from a chunk of moviegoers is that things slow down shortly after the opening moments, and go between rising and falling action quite a bit leading up to the final battle.

Part of this may be audiences coming in expecting an experience closer to Avengers: Infinity War, which felt action heavy in comparison. Of course, given where Infinity War ended, we had to pick up at an interesting point in time, which means the first hour of Avengers: Endgame has a lot of downtime. Fans have to catch up with characters in the five years after the time-jump, which would not have the same emotional impact if characters were kicking ass all through those scenes.

Avengers: Endgame Requires A Lot Of Marvel Knowledge To Fully Appreciate

While the Russos stated that all audiences can enjoy Avengers: Endgame without a vast knowledge of the MCU, that's up to the individual to decide. Someone could see Avengers: Endgame having only seen Infinity War or a handful of other Marvel movies, but there's a good deal of references that will go right over his or her head.

Even those well-versed in the MCU may have missed deep references as the movie even managed to work in scenes from iconic comic book storylines. A great example is Captain America's "Hail Hydra" scene, which is a reference to Captain America: Winter Soldier, but also a polarizing comic storyline in Secret Empire. It's never fun to feel out of the loop in the theater, which may have been why some folks didn't enjoy the flick as much as others.

Avengers: Endgame's Time Travel Is Confusing

This is, perhaps, the biggest criticisms fans have felt comfortable talking about since Avengers: Endgame's release. Time travel can always create issues in storytelling, especially when the movie outright explains it's not going to follow the rules of traditional time travel established by films of the past. There's even a discrepancy between the Russos and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on explaining how it works, which should be a sign.

Answers are, presumably, going to come via Disney+'s Marvel shows or in other Phase 4 films, but there's a sense Avengers: Endgame passed the buck onto someone else to explain away some of the decisions the movie made. Granted, a lot of it wouldn't be too difficult to grasp if it wasn't for Captain America's end scene, which kind of puts a lot of theories fans have to that point on their heads. Bottom line, some fans need a real and official explanation to feel satisfied.

Avengers: Endgame Use Of The Hulk Is Underwhelming

Avengers: Endgame viewers were treated to a wildly different version of the Hulk, who now lived as a superhero with the body of the green gamma radiated giant and the brain of counterpart Bruce Banner. He was, with maybe the exception of Hawkeye, the most transformed of all of the Avengers 5 years after Infinity War. However, with Hawkeye, we witnessed what he lost following the snap, saw the person he became afterward, and then saw how he reclaimed who he was in the process.

With Hulk, we saw the once intimidating and most destructive force in the Avengers dab in front of children. Sure, he did more, but Banner's reconciling with Hulk is a big deal, and some fans feel like it's a shame we didn't see more of him figuring that out. We also really didn't see the two sides as equals, as Banner used very little of that patented "smash" ability. His part was enjoyable, but there wasn't a lot to love for classic Hulk fans.

Avengers: Endgame's Deaths Shouldn't Even Matter

Avengers: Endgame features two huge deaths when --and big spoilers here -- we lose Black Widow and Iron Man. Theoretically, the movie lays out how the MCU can bring neither back thanks to the rules of the Soul Stone etc. However, Gamora being snatched up from the past and brought to the present brings an earlier version of her character back into the Guardians franchise, so why wouldn't they do that immediately? I don't think it can be because it would change the past, because Nebula killing her past self seems to have done nothing.

Using Pym Particles and the Quantum Realm, it would theoretically be easy to bring back both Tony and Natasha from a time prior to their death so that the entire squad can be together again. It may not happen to keep the emotion of Avengers: Endgame, but from a plot perspective, this timey-wimey stuff in Endgame's realm still seems shaky from a lot of fan perspectives. Of course, we know Tony won't be coming back because of his Marvel contract, but still.

Of course, these are just a few of the popular criticisms moviegoers have had for Avengers: Endgame, so readers with other qualms can throw them down in the comments below. Otherwise, stick with CinemaBlend in the meantime for all the latest and greatest news in movies, television, and pop culture.

A Timeline For The Conjuring Universe

A Timeline For The Conjuring Universe
Demian Bichir and Bonnie Aarons in The Nun

We’ve seen many film franchises try to launch cinematic universes in the last decade, but few have been as immensely successful as what has been built with The Conjuring Universe. The ball started rolling in 2013 with the massively successful James Wan film that gave the brand its name, and while there weren’t really initial ambitions to create something bigger, everything changed when John Leonetti’s Annabelle turned into a $250 million global hit one year later. Since then the spooky world has grown and grown, and by the end of 2019 it will have seven titles in canon.

With all that growth can come a little confusion, however, as each new release is set in a different time period and has specific connections to previous stories. It’s in aim of eliminating that confusion that we’ve built this feature. In hopes of helping fans fully grasp the breadth of The Conjuring Universe, we’ve put together this timeline to both linearly illustrate the events we’ve seen so far, and show how the titles link to one another. So without further ado, let’s start at the start by taking a step back in time to the 1950s…

The Nun

Setting: 1952

While there are scenes in other Conjuring Universe titles that take place before it, Corin Hardy’s The Nun is featured first on the timeline because the primary events in the story take place before all of the other narratives in the franchise – specifically taking us back to the year 1952. It was at this time that Father Burke (Demian Bichir) and Sister Irene (Tessa Farmiga) were sent by the Vatican to Romania in hopes of uncovering the details behind the mysterious suicide of a nun. Unfortunately for them, it led to a direct confrontation with the demon known as Valek (Bonnie Aarons), and while they were ultimately able to escape with their lives, the events also saw the horrifically evil entity let loose on the world.

Being set so early on the timeline and taking place in Eastern Europe, The Nun isn’t as directly tied into the events of The Conjuring Universe as many of the other movies, but it does feature some key details. Not only does it show us the origins of the main villain from The Conjuring 2, but it also provides an interesting link to one of the Warrens’ most dangerous cases, as seen in The Conjuring.

Annabelle: Creation

Setting: 1955

As the name of the film implies, David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation is designed as an origin story for its titular character, literally showing how the seriously creepy porcelain toy came into existence. Technically it all kicks off in 1943, as that was when doll maker Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) first designed Annabelle for his daughter (Samara Lee), but the majority of the story takes place in 1955 – which is when Samuel and his wife Esther (Miranda Otto) agreed to take in the children from a shuttered orphanage, as well as their caretaker Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman). It was at this time that the doll not only started to get stronger, but also took its first victims.

This is obviously a table-setter for all of Annabelle’s adventures in The Conjuring Universe so far, showing how she first became possessed and the initial efforts that were taken to contain her power. And while those efforts were successful for a while, it took about 12 years for her special brand of chaos to be one again unleashed upon the world…

Annabelle

Setting: 1967

Despite Annabelle’s very small role in The Conjuring, audiences quickly fell in love with her, and Warner Bros. acted quickly to take advantage of that affection. But with the movie having already established how she ended up in the possession of Ed and Loraine Warren, the first Annabelle spin-off had to find a different story to tell, which is why it wound up being set in 1967. Inspired by the cult murders of the era – specifically the actions of the Manson family – it tells a rather self-contained tale about the terrors that the titular doll can induce, specifically torturing a couple of new parents (Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton) who wind up with her in their possession.

Despite being the first of its own series, John Leonetti’s Annabelle is arguably best seen as a middle chapter sandwiched between Annabelle: Creation and Annabelle Comes Home. Its connections to the rest of the Conjuring Universe are minimal, but it does fill a key gap in the timeline between Annabelle’s “birth” and her time in the hands of the Warrens.

Annabelle Comes Home

Setting: 1970

Although Gary Dauberman’s Annabelle Comes Home hasn’t actually been released or even screened just yet, we know a lot about the movie’s setting simply because the central premise is very much tied into where it takes place on The Conjuring Universe timeline. Specifically, the story is told on the night that Ed and Loraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) bring the titular doll back to their house so that it can be contained in their occult museum. With what we already know about the Warrens relationship with Annabelle, this pins it right before the main events of The Conjuring, hence its placement here in this feature.

Taking things a step further, it’s even easier to specifically place Annabelle Comes Home because it’s apparently a story that doesn’t exactly stretch out for weeks/months on end. Instead, the action will be taking place over the course of one night, as young Judy Warren (Mckenna Grace), her babysitter (Madison Iseman), and her babysitter’s friend (Katie Sarife) try and survive the terror that Annabelle is able to unleash while being surrounded by the Warrens’ huge collection of terrifying objects.

The Conjuring

Setting: 1971

Finally we get to the film that started it all – and it’s a pretty easy one to explain timeline-wise. James Wan’s The Conjuring is a straight-forward horror flick when it comes to narrative, as while there are references to events in the past, as well as the aforementioned introduction of Annabelle, most of the movie takes place within a few weeks of the year 1971.

As for its relationship with the rest of The Conjuring Universe, there aren’t many connections to mention that haven’t already been established – though it is worth recognizing that Ed and Loraine Warren aren’t exactly amateurs at the start of this story. As a result, it’s entirely possible that future chapters of this franchise could be set both before and after the events in this movie – it all just depends on the stories that the filmmakers are interested in telling.

The Curse Of La Llorona

Setting: 1973

Because of the period storytelling that The Conjuring Universe employs, most of the titles have been very specific in establishing exactly when it is that each of the stories take place (hence why we’ve been able to tag specific years for each movie). Michael Chaves’ The Curse Of La Llorona is a bit different, though. While we know that it definitely takes place after the events of Annabelle, specifically because of the involvement of Father Perez (Tony Amendola), the upcoming movie recently revealed it's setting to be 1973, which puts it smack dab in the middle of the Conjuring franchise.

It almost makes sense that there would be a bit of vagueness surrounding The Curse Of La Llorona, as it’s also The Conjuring Universe movie with the fewest connections to the rest of the franchise. It’s not a spin-off from any specific title, and with the exception of the presence of Father Perez is doesn’t actually have any other Easter eggs. If you’re watching these films chronologically, you can really watch this one any time after Annabelle and not get confused by how it fits into the grand scheme of things.

The Conjuring 2

Setting: 1977

Because of the inspiration taken from the lives of Ed and Loraine Warren, it may be a minute before we get to see a contemporary movie set in The Conjuring Universe, so right now the last title on the franchise timeline is James Wan’s The Conjuring 2. The film opens in 1976, specifically with the paranormal investigating duo looking into the notorious events in Amityville, New York, but the majority of the narrative takes them to 1977 England where they look into the case of the Enfield Poltergeist.

Much like its direct predecessor, elements of The Conjuring 2 have been expanded through spin-offs, most notably The Nun, and it makes for an interesting viewing experience knowing the background material provided by the other titles. So if you’re planning on doing a chronological run through The Conjuring Universe the next time you decide to revisit the franchise, you may find that certain details come across a bit differently by the time you get to the end of the timeline.

This covers everything that we’ve seen from The Conjuring Universe so far, but there is still a bright future ahead for the demon-filled series, with announced projects like The Conjuring 3, The Nun 2, and The Crooked Man. You can be sure that we here on CinemaBlend will be following them all very closely, so be sure to stay tuned for all the latest details.

How Much Men In Black International Could Make Opening Weekend

How Much Men In Black International Could Make Opening Weekend
Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in a club in Men in Black: International

Although the Men in Black organization above all else seeks anonymity, to not stand out in any way and be dismissed just as quickly as déjà vu, Sony is hoping that Men in Black International stands out in a big way and is not dismissed by audiences when it opens in theaters next month. The latest tracking is in for the upcoming spinoff, and Men in Black International is headed toward a $40 million opening weekend.

People with access to the early tracking data, as well as individuals at Sony Pictures, are both pegging F. Gary Gray's Men in Black International to open at $40 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This number is right in line with the long-range tracking of a $30-$50 million domestic debut that came out last month. So if the tracking is right, Men in Black International should land in that neighborhood.

A $40 million debut isn’t quite a ‘push the little red button’ kind of incredible launch for the spinoff, but it would show that audiences haven’t been neuralized and still remember this franchise seven years after Men in Black 3. However, an opening weekend around $40 million for Men in Black International would be the lowest debut for a film in this franchise.

Men in Black opened to $84.1 million in 1997, but it came out on a Wednesday in advance of the July 4 holiday, so its 3-day total was $51 million. 2002’s Men in Black 2 also opened right before Independence Day and enjoyed an $87.2 million 5-day performance and a $52.1 million 3-day performance. The most recent film in the franchise, Men in Black 3, opened on Memorial Day weekend in 2012 and made $54.6 over the Friday-Sunday frame and $69.2 million when factoring in Memorial Day.

So not accounting for inflation, this franchise has overall been pretty consistent with its opening weekend performances and MIB International would be a bit below them. But as mentioned, all of the previous films have opened on holiday weekends and likely benefitted from that even in the 3-day numbers. Men in Black International comes out on Flag Day and that Sunday is Father’s Day, but it will not enjoy the kind of long weekend where people are off work.

The previous Men in Black films had the star power of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and the latter two were also sequels to a beloved film and had that to their advantage. As a spinoff, Men in Black International has to prove itself. While stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have major recognizability thanks to their roles in the MCU, neither has really proven to be a box office draw yet outside of those films.

That said, the two actors’ chemistry in Thor: Ragnarok and the proximity of Avengers: Endgame might compel some audiences to see them together in something else. While the tracking has held steady around that $40 million mark, tracking is inexact and Men in Black International could still theoretically see a swing in either direction depending on the final marketing push and the reviews/early reactions to the film.

On the competition front, Men in Black International opens the week after Dark Phoenix and The Secret Life of Pets 2. Opening opposite Men in Black International is the new Shaft, which is R-rated, but unlike some of its predecessors, it's going for a comedic approach. That could make it something of a direct competitor to Men in Black for audiences looking for comedy that weekend.

Jim Jarmusch’s zombie flick The Dead Don’t Die, starring Bill Murray and Adam Driver, also opens that weekend, but that’s a smaller movie and Jarmusch’s work doesn’t usually play to the mass market.

Men in Black International opens on June 14. Check out our 2019 Release Schedule to see everything headed your way this summer.

Midsommar Trailer: Watch A Vacation Become A Cultish Nightmare

Midsommar Trailer: Watch A Vacation Become A Cultish Nightmare

Among recent hits for horror amidst the genre’s continued renaissance is Ari Aster’s 2018 feature-film debut Hereditary. The unsettling flick centered on family tragedy will soon be followed up by Midsommar, a movie that visually brings the brightness way up as blue skies and blonde-haired women in bright white summer dresses and flower crowns frolic through a Swedish village. Don’t let the daylight fool you, Midsommar looks very much like an Aster film – just take a look at the new spine-chilling trailer:

Okay, so his looks terrifying. The new trailer from A24 gives us a bit of an idea of the film’s set up. Midsommar will follow Dani and Christian, a young couple played by Fighting With My Family’s Florence Pugh and Sing Street’s Jack Reynor who are close to breaking up. Following a personal struggle Dani is going through right before Christian’s planned bro trip with some friends to Sweden, he invites her along, much to their detest.

The group go on a week trip to a village in Sweden for a summer festival that’s described to have ceremonies and fun dress up… but it’s no Coachella.

The friends seem to have found themselves in some sort of ancient cult of sorts who reject Dani from leaving when she senses something off about the festival. It’s always daylight at the site, and they seem to witness some gruesome ceremonies during a once in a century ritual.

The trailer ends with some unnerving moments featuring the dissection of a bear, hints of violence, intense chanting and Dani standing up among the group as a voiceover says “I was most excited for you to come”. Will we witness a starling transformation from Dani (potentially reminiscent of the ending of Hereditary?) We’ll just have to wait and see.

Ari Aster has previously described Midsommar as “a breakup movie, in the same way that Heredity was a family tragedy”. So perhaps the film will explore the couple’s troubles through the lens of the filmmaker’s specific brand of terror. He has also called it “Wizard of Oz for perverts” so now I’m really confused about what to expect from this movie.

There’s something special about the marketing of Ari Aster’s films because it establishes tone and intrigue, but doesn’t give enough away for audiences to be able to distinguish the storyline they are in for. While Hereditary was almost exclusively made up of dark hues begging to be watched under dim lights (like a Game of Thrones episode), one scary aspect of Midsommar is how the events will take place exclusively in broad daylight.

Midsommar has an impressive cast led by Florence Pugh, who was recently cast alongside Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow. Will Poulter from We’re The Millers and Netflix’s Bandersnatch and William Jackson Harper, best known as Chidi in The Good Place also will be featured in the film. Midsommar hits theaters on July 3.

What Unite The Seven Really Means For Aquaman

What Unite The Seven Really Means For Aquaman

When Zack Snyder first revealed Jason Momoa as Aquaman a few years ago, the image came with a very cryptic message: "Unite The Seven." At the time there was a great deal of speculation about what it could mean, with many wondering if it could reference the seven core members of the Justice League from the comics, but it turns out that guess was wrong. Instead, it was actually an important clue about the plot of the upcoming Aquaman movie, as I learned on the set of the film last year talking with production designer Bill Brzeski:

This is a complicated story. It's not just like you go to Atlantis, and it's Atlantis... Atlantis fell into the ocean about 5,000 years ago, and it morphed into seven different kingdoms. So, when you go to the movie, you've got Trench people; you've got Brine people; you have Xebellian people; you have the Fisherman Kingdom; you have The Missing Kingdom; and you have the Atlanteans. So, the storyline, if you saw on the internet, it says 'Unite the seven.' Really, what that's about for Orm, who is the king of Atlantis, he's half-brother to Aquaman, is to take control and become an "Ocean Master"... He has to unite the seven kingdoms, so you have to have this quorum to really get things going down there.

I visited the set of Aquaman with a small group of other journalists last summer in Melbourne, Australia, and part of our junket included a tour of the production art room a.k.a. The War Room, and it was there was we had the chance to talk with Bill Brzeski about his work on the film. Diving into the complex world that will be introduced to audiences later this year, the filmmaker painted a picture for us what to expect from Atlantis on the big screen, and while he only named six of the seven kingdoms, he answered an important question we've been asking for a long time.

Comic book fans probably perked up at the mention of Ocean Master at the end there, given that is the supervillain moniker taken on by Orm in the pages of DC Comics. The character will be introduced in live-action for the first time in Aquaman, played by Patrick Wilson, and when we first meet him in the story he will have a very specific mission. While he sits on the throne of Atlantis, it is his goal to unite the seven kingdoms, and will do so by any means necessary -- particularly because of his antagonism towards the human race. Unfortunately for him, the big step is acquiring the King's Trident, and recognizing the potential danger Orm represents to the surface world, Aquaman teams up with Mera (Amber Heard) to stop him.

Will Aquaman be able to successfully stop his brother and potentially unite the seven kingdoms himself? We won't find out until James Wan's Aquaman hits theaters later this year -- specifically on December 21st. Between now and then be sure to keep checking CinemaBlend, as we have a lot more content coming from my time on set.

It was a shocking and confusing revelation for fans that seemed to come out of nowhere. However, it turns out that in true J.K. Rowling fashion, the author and the film's screenwriter hinted at the twist years ago.
