The John Wick Match-Up We Need To See In Chapter 4

The John Wick Match-Up We Need To See In Chapter 4
John Wick in Chapter 3 - Parabellum

Warning! The following contains SPOILERS for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. Read at your own risk!

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum featured John Wick going up against some of The High Table's finest assassins, although none were good enough to take down the film's hero and eliminate him when he was excommunicado. That may be because one of the key assassins who might have been most capable wasn't one seeking to kill the famed assassin, but was on his side for a majority of the movie.

Now that they're seemingly on opposite sides and John Wick: Chapter 4 is officially a go for 2021, it may finally be time for John to take on a character who may actually stand a chance at bringing him to his knees. Even if he was unsuccessful, it would be a good fight, which is why John Wick vs. Charon, The Continental's hotel concierge, is the match-up we need to see for a number of reasons.

Why Charon Is The Underrated Assassin Of John Wick

For the first two movies of the franchise, Charon has been both seen and heard, but we don't know a whole lot about him. What we do know is he's the bodyguard of New York's Continental manager, Winston, and the overall gatekeeper of sorts to The Continental. He's calm and collected regardless of the situation, and he doesn't seem to fear much of anything.

It wasn't until John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum that we really saw Charon in action, as he helped John defend The Continental from the High Table forces that invaded the hotel. He did so as competently as John, and while he didn't have the same fatigue as his colleague, seemed to be of equal standing in terms of marksmanship.

If Charon is a capable assassin, why is he not out taking missions on behalf of the High Table? It depends on how one looks at it, but one would think being the gatekeeper to New York City's Continental is a huge honor perhaps bestowed to him for exceptional service, or maybe because he's more than capable of keeping a building of assassins in check. Whether that's true I can only speculate, but I'd wager Charon is a talented assassin.

Would Charon Fight John Wick?

Charon looked as though he could at least put up a decent fight againt John Wick if it came down to it, but would he really go toe-to-toe with him? After all, Charon has been shown to have a deep respect for John, and has gone above and beyond for him in the past without being asked. There's certainly some admiration on his end, and John seems to have that same respect for Charon.

As audiences learned in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, however, admiration does not always keep assassins from pursuing each other. In fact, Zero (the Adjudicator's skilled assassin) seemed to be a huge fanboy of John Wick, which made him all the more eager to fight and attempt to kill him. Clearly assassins' minds work a bit differently than others.

Plus, for all the admiration that Charon has for John, he's Winston's employee. Protecting his boss appears to be his priority above all else, and if John is coming for Winston, then it looks like Charon is going to be standing in the way. Even if he's sure it will end in his death, Charon doesn't seem like the type to break his loyalty to his employer.

Could Charon Defeat John Wick In A Fight?

This is a tough question to answer, as it's hard to ever discount John Wick in a fight after these past three movies. He is the title character after all, and has escaped certain death plenty of times. Does Charon really stand a chance against one of the most notable assassins in the High Table's history?

Charon has one big advantage after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. To start, he's aligned with Winston, who got back into the High Table's good graces at the end of the movie. With John still possibly being hunted, it's safe to say that if he is coming for Winston, and he'll run into quite a few High Table cronies on the road. That means he could be somewhat fatigued by the time the two meet, which gives Charon an advantage.

Additionally, one would reckon that neither Winston or Charon have any reason to leave The Continental now that Winston's name has been cleared. John is likely familiar with the facility, but it's doubtful he knows the grounds as well as Charon. Knowledge of a location is a huge tactical advantage in most battle situations, so John could be in a very precarious position if he's forced to take on Charon inside the hotel.

Will Charon And John Wick Fight In Chapter 4?

The ending of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum is somewhat strange, as Winston's betrayal seemed to come out of nowhere. Was it really an on the spot decision for Winston to turn the tables on John, or was it an elaborate scheme the two concocted that will further an agenda to usurp the High Table?

If there was some plan like that in play, it doesn't seem as though John was in on it. He arrived before the Bowery King broken and, in his words, pissed off. Getting shot off of a building is liable to piss anyone off, but is John mad about that, or that Winston tried to kill him when John defied the High Table's order to kill The Continental manager? He can be mad at both things, right?

It's possible Winston thought on his toes and ensured John was initially believed to be dead knowing he wasn't in an effort to protect him. Unfortunately, he probably won't have a way of convincing John of that anytime soon, which means Charon may be forced to defend Winston even though he understands the move was made to protect John. Oof, wouldn't that be a tragic end to one of the franchise's more interesting characters?

Fifty Shades Freed: Rate And Discuss

Fifty Shades Freed: Rate And Discuss

We hate to break the news to you, Fifty Shades fans, but Fifty Shades Freed is, indeed, the end of the adventures of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). After a three film courtship, the pair finally settled down in marriage, but still have a perilous finale to get through in order to live happily ever after. All of the drama, tension, and sexy adventure that the Fifty Shades trilogy has delivered thus far definitely looks to be represented in the new film, so fans of the franchise should be happy with this final entry.

That said, we have to wonder if critical evaluation will be Fifty Shades Freed's friend this time out? We're not so sure, as we've predicted the film will reach a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after all the reviews are in and counted; and that's after a 10% showing for Fifty Shades Darker lowered the bar from the first film's 25% high water mark. Our own reviewer saw the film in advance, and had some choice words about the finale to the franchise started by 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey. In particular, our review for the film had this to say:

Fifty Shades Freed ends the franchise not with a whimper, nor a bang, but a Pinterest board of bad ideas involving storytelling, relationship advice, and general conduct.

With all of that in mind, movies aren't simply judged in a critical vacuum, as you, the fans, certainly have opinions on how you enjoyed Fifty Shades Freed. Which leads us to the first audience participation portion of Rate and Discuss, the discussion questions! After seeing the film, feel free to discuss the following post-viewing questions in mind.

Do you think Anastasia and Christian are in a healthy marriage? Are there any pieces of the book version of Fifty Shades Freed that you wish would have been left in the film?Would you be interested in seeing Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson make a film version of Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as told by Christian?Which Fifty Shades installment is your favorite? What, in your opinion, could be the next Fifty Shades of the movie world?

Those questions are yours for the answering in the Comments section below, but in addition to your opinions on Fifty Shades Freed, we're curious as to how you'd rate the film on a scale of 0 to 5. Using the poll below, feel free to vote for how much you enjoyed the film, and don't be shy about sharing why you felt the way you did in your comments.

Of course, the end of a franchise comes with its stars looking back on their time in the roles that helped make them big. In the case of Jamie Dornan, he has some specific thoughts on how it feels to leave his role of Christian Grey. However, when it comes to Dakota Johnson, she seems to be more focused on why she took the part of Anastasia Grey (nee Steele) when it was offered for Fifty Shades of Grey. On a more disappointing note to some fans, and a little bit of a spoiler for Fifty Shades Freed, you don't get to see Jamie's "Dornan" in the film, and there's a good reason as to why the actor decided full frontal nudity wasn't for him.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, it's your turn to talk our ears off about how Fifty Shades Freed measures up with the rest of the franchise, as well as the movie world in general. We'll see you here next week, for our next installment of Rate and Discuss! Until then, enjoy your weekend's viewing, whatever it may be, and we'll see you back here at CinemaBlend.

Rian Johnson Doesn’t Mind If Star Wars: Episode IX Retcons The Last Jedi

Rian Johnson Doesn’t Mind If Star Wars: Episode IX Retcons The Last Jedi
Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Wherever you fall on Star Wars: The Last Jedi reception scale, there’s no question that it’s one of the most divisive films in the Star Wars franchises, if not at the top of the list. Building off what J.J. Abrams established in The Force Awakens, Rian Johnson was brought in to write and direct The Last Jedi, and many of his creative choices were met by controversy by portions of the Star Wars fanbase. With Abrams now overseeing Star Wars: Episode IX, Johnson is okay if this next movie ends up retconning portions of The Last Jedi, specifically Rey’s parentage.

One of the big questions regarding Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was who her parents were. Upon touching Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber at Maz Kanata’s cantina, Rey was bombarded by a flurry of Force visions, one of which showed her being left on Jakku as a child, and her family was never shown. For the next two years, fans wondered about the secrets of Rey’s past, like if she was related to the Skywalker family. Then came Star Wars: The Last Jedi, during which Kylo Ren told Rey to admit what she knew along: that her parents were “nobody,” with Ren saying that they were “filthy junk traders” who sold her for drinking money and were long dead in a pauper’s grave on Jakku.

Well, this plot twist was among the many aspects of Star Wars: The Last Jedi that was met with mixed reactions, and some fans have questioned if J.J. Abrams will retcon this reveal in Star Wars: Episode IX and make Rey’s parents significant people. That remains to be seen, and Rian Johnson has largely remained out of the loop on Episode IX’s development, only having a couple of conversations with Abrams. However, when asked by MTV News if he’d be okay with Abrams retconning the lineage of Rey’s parents in Episode IX, Johnson responded:

I want to let go of all my expectations. I want to sit back. I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want [J.J. Abrams] to do stuff I wasn’t expecting him to do and just go along for the ride. For me, that’s why I go to the movies, you know?

Rey’s parents being turned from nobodies to important individuals would certainly qualify as a surprise. Shortly after Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out, Rian Johnson revealed that the reason he went that direction with Rey’s family was because every other idea he came up with her parents’ identities just didn’t work for him. This creative choice was also a sharp contrast from what we’ve seen from the Skywalker family over the years, with Rey’s impressive Force powers existing for some reason other than having a notable genealogy. That’s assuming, of course, that this sticks for Episode IX. After all, this is a franchise known for its surprises, and it wouldn’t be the first time someone learned that what they’d been told about their family was false.

No doubt changing Rey’s parents would please a portion of the Star Wars fanbase, although I do hope that Star Wars: Episode IX doesn’t go all out on retconning every element of Star Wars: The Last Jedi that was deemed controversial. At the very least, if Rey’s parents were actually identified and even declared to still be alive, she would at least have the opportunity to reunite with them, something she was desperate to do in The Force Awakens. On the other hand, The Last Jedi was about Rey proving her self-worth and skill, and how she didn’t need a notable family line to become a Jedi/Resistance hero, so reversing all that undercuts the message.

In any case, Rian Johnson’s time with this era of Star Wars movies is done, but once he’s finished making Knives Out, he’ll shift to his own Star Wars trilogy, which will focus on new characters and explore other corners of the galaxy far, far away. As far as Episode IX is concerned, he’ll watch it just as a normal fan would (though I suspect he’ll get to attend one of the earliest screenings), and if J.J. Abrams has retconned anything that Johnson set up in The Last Jedi, Johnson will be okay with it so long as he’s entertained and thrilled.

In addition to being the final installment of the current Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX will also be the final chapter of the entire Skywalker Saga, so there’s a lot of plates this movie has to spin. The only official plot detail revealed so far is that it will take place one year after The Last Jedi, which ended with The Resistance nearly being wiped out by The First Order, but the few survivors, including Rey, managing to escape to fight another day. Along with a swarm of familiar faces returning for Episode IX, including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill and, for his first Star Wars movie appearance in nearly 40 years, Billy Dee Williams, the cast also includes newcomers like Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant and Dominic Monaghan.

While there’s always the chance that Daisy Ridley and the other stars of the current Star Wars trilogy could perhaps return to this franchise several decades down the line, just like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford did, since Episode IX is wrapping up the Skywalker saga, that means fans should go in assuming this will be the last time we see all these characters. Here’s hoping then that each of their stories concludes in a satisfactory manner, and that if Rey’s background is indeed altered, it at least blends nicely with her overall narrative arc and doesn’t come off as a haphazard switch meant to please folks who were angered by the reveal in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in theaters on December 20. As for what else is hitting the silver screen in the near future, look through our 2019 release schedule for that information, and Star Wars fans shouldn’t forget that The Mandalorian will also premiere on Disney+ in the near future, maybe even by the end of the year.

Kevin Feige Says There Will Be No Time To Pee During Avengers: Endgame

Kevin Feige Says There Will Be No Time To Pee During Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame Hawkeye soaked and sad in the rain

After Avengers: Endgame was officially announced as a three hour and two minute epic, one particular question came up that hasn’t really been raised with any other Marvel Studios film: Will there be time to pee? Sure, three hours sounds intimidating, but with so many other films before it running close to that length in the MCU, is it really that big of a question? Well if it’s an issue close to your heart, producer/mastermind Kevin Feige has given an answer as to when is the best time to pee during Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately for those with small bladders, that answer is never.

What I’ve always said is a movie is as long as it should be. And we are not fans of overindulging movies. We are not fans of laborious lengths for no reason. We are fans of movies that you wish didn’t end. Movies that you want to see again as soon as it’s over. And movies that you just don’t ever find a good time to run out to the bathroom. That’s when a movie’s working. And if a movie doesn’t feel like that to us we continue to trim, we continue to shape, we continue to bring that time down. That happened to a certain extent on this movie. But we got to a point where it feels very exciting and goes by very quickly and in the end is the perfect length. And everybody that saw the movie felt the same way.

This particular subject was raised at this weekend’s press junket for the Infinity Saga’s swan song, and Feige explained that they tweaked the movie until they got to the point where there was no downtime in the film.

So, rather than being a sadistic response to a rather public issue, Kevin Feige is saying that Avengers: Endgame is such a well-woven story that every second of screen time is earned in the eyes of the creators. If that claim holds up, and everything we’ve seen come out of the film’s marketing indicates such a scenario may be likely, you’re definitely going to want to go to the bathroom before taking the trip to defeat Thanos and not whilst in the middle of it.

You could pretty much expect this piece of information Kevin Feige told io9 to spark up the debate of whether or not an intermission is required during Avengers: Endgame, and for sure this information changes the terms of that discussion. If the plot to this particular film is so hypothetically dense there’s little-to-no period of time the audience can be absent, then even those who feel that a film of this stature doesn’t require a breather might be persuaded to change their tune. This only makes the claim that the second half of the film is apparently mind-blowing all the more intriguing.

Of course, this is coming from Kevin Feige, and to say he’s biased towards Avengers: Endgame, or any of the MCU films, is an understatement. What may be an invaluable moment of Ant-Man joking about defeating Thanos through the worst re-enactment of Fantastic Voyage ever for some, might be another audience member’s perfect time to purge the soft drinks he or she consumed earlier.

Avengers: Endgame will be in theaters on April 26th, but if you’re seriously concerned about bladder-pacing issues, you might want to wait a little while for some public feedback to see whether or not this film will give you a problem. Which gives you a little more time to study our feature on what order you should experience the MCU prior to Avengers: Endgame.

How The Avengers Team Wants Fans To View Marvel Films 30 Years From Now

How The Avengers Team Wants Fans To View Marvel Films 30 Years From Now
Avengers: Endfame poster

On the eve of the release of Avengers: Endgame, there has been a lot of looking back at the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the last 11 years and 22 movies Marvel Studios has done something nobody has ever done before, bringing the cross-title continuity of comic books onto the silver screen. In addition to simply succeeding in that effort, the movies have been incredibly successful. But how will history judge this incredible accomplishment? The original six Avengers and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige were recently asked that question and they had a lot of feelings on the topic. Jeremy Renner, for one, wonders how the MCU's success could potentially change the industry decades down the road...

I wonder what the ripple effect of it will be in 30 years. 'Look what Feige’s done!' How do you do a series of films? Twenty-two films! How do you do that?

It's very likely that we will see a ripple effect down the line, considering that we largely already have. Following the beginning of the MCU, we saw Warner Bros. and DC follow suit with their own collection of comic book heroes. We've also seen a cinematic universe spring up around Godzilla and King Kong and an attempt at launching one around Universal's classic movie monsters, who arguably invented the concept back in the 1940s.

While other cinematic universes have met with varying degrees of success, and none have been as successful as Marvel, it seems unlikely that nobody else will ever try to launch one again. The opportunity for gain is simply too great. The cinematic universe gives the impression that otherwise unconnected stories need to be seen by fans who don't want to miss any elements of the larger storyline. This means that even when two and three films a year are released, fans are off to see them in the theaters, even if they don't necessarily focus on characters that fans care about.

Of course, just because other studios will almost certainly continue to try to emulate the success of the MCU, doesn't mean they will be successful. Chris Evans tells EW that what Kevin Feige and Marvel have done is something that nobody will be able to do again.

I’m always amazed with the ability that Kevin has had to house this giant tapestry of all these woven plotlines. I just don’t think it’s ever going to happen again. I don’t think anyone has the ability to launch all these different rockets, and then years down the road have them all explode at once. It’s just the planning and the care and the subtlety to it.

That's really the question. Can something like this happen again? Can even Marvel Studios do it again? While Marvel movies will continue after Avengers: Endgame, we have no idea what they will look like. Endgame is designed to be and endpoint of sorts. How much of the story will continue, how much the focus will shift to other characters or stories we still don't know. The MCU won't be starting at zero but it may very well be starting fresh, meaning even Marvel may have difficulty emulating its own success.

If Marvel Retconned X-Men For The MCU, I Wouldn't Shed A Tear

If Marvel Retconned X-Men For The MCU, I Wouldn't Shed A Tear
X-Men: Apocalypse poster

It's a wild time in the X-Men franchise. Fox's second attempt at a movie centered on Phoenix in due in June, and The New Mutants is presumably coming at some point as well. The larger news, however, is that Disney will soon be getting control of the mutants via the Disney-Fox merger, and there's been endless speculation about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe could incorporate the characters. It's either taking the existing lineup of characters and folding them them in, or scrapping the entire franchise and starting from scratch with a reboot.

Truth be told, if Marvel retconned the X-Men franchise to incorporate it into the MCU, I wouldn't shed a single tear. In fact, it's my preferred strategy for the merger at this stage, as incorporating the current characters in with Phase 4 and beyond would be a big mistake. Why? It comes down to a recent revelation I had after seeing the powdery blue new look that Jennifer Lawrence is sporting in Dark Phoenix:

This particular makeup job is arguably representational of the X-Men franchise at large over the years. It started off as one thing, constantly changed over the years, and has varied drastically in quality. Sometimes the franchise is looking good, like Mystique in X-Men: First Class. Then there's the other times where it's been less than good, and it's more like her latest appearance.

There's been good X-Men films, and there's been horrifically bad ones - and it's a level of inconsistency that we thankfully haven't seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the Rotten Tomatoes score of Thor: The Dark World is higher than X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and X-Men: Apocalypse. It's gotten to a point where, as an audience, we've come to expect the quality of an upcoming film is a dice roll at best, and that's a problem when it comes to merging the brands.

This is particularly true for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is in the process of saying goodbye to several heroes integral to its success throughout the past decade. It will be a big enough task for Marvel Studios to lay new groundwork and attempt to replicate its success over another decade, and adding the currently existing X-Men franchise to canon would make that so much harder. Hard enough, at least, that one has to sit back and wonder if it's really worth doing at all.

Admittedly bringing the X-Men into the Marvel Universe would potentially net the franchise some solid talent. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner, and Evan Peters would all make for great additions provided they're on board. That's a big if, though, because let's not forget, Dark Phoenix takes place decades before the events going in the contemporary MCU.

So, either Marvel could age up the characters in makeup, which seems unlikely, or they could continue the continuity with a new set of actors, such as the original X-Men cast. The latter doesn't seem likely, though, given the bulk original X-Men's cast is approaching or beyond 50. Plus, let's remember that, no offense to the rest of the cast, the two main people most fans would want to return are now dead in the X-Men timeline. For years many have begged for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to appear in an Marvel Cinematic Universe feature, but it's just not a realistic dream to hold anymore. Bringing Jackman back to play the character now would create another plot inconsistency in the X-Men timeline, and kind of shit on the emotional weight and awesomeness of Logan - which also saw the death of the other aforementioned beloved hero: Patrick Stewart's Professor X. There was once a time where this was a great dream to have and fight for, but those days are long gone.

The remaining character in the X-Men continuity seemingly worth keeping around is Deadpool. I count myself among those who want to see his integration happen, but also worry that keeping the X-Men out or rebooting the team for the Marvel Cinematic Universe would keep him from ever being included. The hope is that the Merc With The Mouth's nature could help him in this arena. He's pretty far-removed from the franchise as is, and his fourth-wall breaking abilities make it easy enough for him to outwardly address the elephant in the room in a comedic way rather than having to create some elaborate plot to explain the situation.

Beyond the chance to potentially succeed doing something incredibly challenging, there doesn't seem to be much reason for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to absorb the current X-Men continuity. Doing so would only put the burden of its uneven and sometimes incomprehensible story lines into a universe that's been so well constructed, and basically the gold standard for a shared universe. What's so bad about starting fresh and introducing a rebooted batch of mutants that can carry us into the next decade and beyond? This is especially true when Marvel has story lines like Avengers vs. X-Men, which, while polarizing within the comic book world, would still be an absolute blast to see on the big screen. Plus imagine a future Avengers lineup that includes characters like Cyclops or Storm, or even a new Wolverine. Sure, there may never be another actor to play the character as well as Hugh Jackman, but we'll never know until Hollywood tries someone else.

Bill And Ted 3's Official Release Date Has Been Announced

Bill And Ted 3's Official Release Date Has Been Announced

Somewhere out there is a scientist, crunching the numbers on how the right mathematical conditions must be present for a movie sequel to actually happen after a decade or more of time has passed. And that brainiac is about have another case study on his or her hands, as Bill and Ted 3 has not only been confirmed, it has also been given a release date. But don't take our word for it, as the August 21, 2020 slot was announced by two rather familiar faces in a video posted today:

Straight from the mouths of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, the long dreamt of third entry in their cult classic series will be a summer release next year. And even better, the film's name is confirmed as well: Bill and Ted Face The Music! Taking place in the modern day, with middle-aged Bill and Ted still playing best buds who are waiting for their big break, this third adventure has the fate of the world in the balance yet again.

This time, the only thing between the future of the universe and total destruction is a song. A song that Bill and Ted will need to provide. Directed by Galaxy Quest's Dean Parisot, and written by Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, Bill and Ted Face The Music is currently shooting in New Orleans. Something that wouldn't have happened, if it weren't for the fans who wanted the Wyld Stallions to reunite for one more musical journey.

Much like plenty of delayed sequels before it, Bill and Ted Face The Music has been talked about a lot over the past couple of years, but movement was always slow. Every time you turned around, it felt as if there was a new reason or a new cause behind why the third film wasn't happening just yet. All the while, those involved kept proclaiming they did want to be a part of a third movie, the stars just needed to align for it to happen. We even got to a point last year where Keanu Reeves himself didn't think this third film would happen.

It's almost been 30 years since Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey first quenched the thirst for a sequel adventure pertaining to the well-being of William S. Preston, Esq and Theodore Logan. Now, the powers that be will finally give everyone a third riff of excitement that's been decades in the making. Whether or not that trip to the U.K. that was previously rumored to be a part of this adventure, or even if  how they got back from Mars will be explained has yet to be seen. There's actually a movie where either of those possibilities can take place, because up until now it felt like Bill and Ted 3 was still a pipe dream.

Bill and Ted Face The Music rocks out most excellently on August 21, 2020. It's a heinous wait, to say the least, but the 2019 release schedule looks rosy enough that you could find some sweet action at the movies much sooner than you thought.

Meg Ryan Helped Come Up With Her Infamous When Harry Met Sally Orgasm Scene

Meg Ryan Helped Come Up With Her Infamous When Harry Met Sally Orgasm Scene
When Harry Met Sally orgasm scene.

When Harry Met Sally’s restaurant orgasm scene is iconic, both within the context of the history of film and also Meg Ryan’s career. Now, 30 years after the release of the rom-com starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, the movie is going to be celebrated with galas and even a Fathom Event.

If you can’t make those, however, the cast and director Rob Reiner recently joined together to talk about the iconic film, noting that now-infamous orgasm scene was partially a concoction of Meg Ryan's. According to Rob Reiner,

Meg was the one who said, ‘I’ll do it. I’ll actually do it.' The idea was we gotta have something that men don’t know about women because earlier where they’re in the plane together and Billy talked about after sex how a man feels and all that, and we were saying we need a counterpoint, and Meg said, ‘I’ll do it, I’ll just actually act it out. We don’t have to talk about it. I’ll do it.’ And I had the idea, ‘[It’ll be] in a restaurant!'

So, the orgasm scene in and of itself wasn’t Meg Ryan’s idea, but putting that scene in a very public place was chalked up to her influence, per the When Harry Met Sally director.

Previously, Bill Crystal told a similar story in which Meg Ryan had contributed the idea of the fake orgasm after Nora Ephron had mentioned women did this in real life. In his version however, the idea to do a fake orgasm was Ryan’s and the idea to do it in a restaurant was his.

Whatever the exact truth, it’s clear the When Harry Met Sally scene was pretty collaborative. Which may be one of the reasons it works so well in the final edit of the movie.

Rob Reiner went on to tell EW that wasn’t the only portion of the scene Meg Ryan contributed, however. After it was determined Meg Ryan would fake her orgasm opposite Billy Crystal at a restaurant, she had another brilliant idea...

She does a little thing at the end, which I didn’t tell her to do, she has a full-on orgasm and then she goes right back and she takes a little bite of coleslaw.

It’s a classic movie moment. Many of the people in the restaurant have turned around to stare at Sally while she has her orgasmic moment, when suddenly she stops and all is back to normal. She takes a bit of her coleslaw while Harry gives her a look.

Related: When Harry Met Sally Almost Had A Super Depressing Ending

Afterwards an extra –who we know was actually Rob Reiner’s own mother – utters a famous movie line: “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Since I’m sure you’d like to relive the “I’ll have what she’s having moment, you can watch the full scene below.

However it came about exactly, the orgasm scene is so notable, Meg Ryan’s son Jack Quaid learned about it young and purposefully waited until he was in his twenties to actually watch the scene. Because who wants to watch their mom having a fake orgasm, am I right?

For the record, if you think it’s weird he watched it at all, he says it was in preparation for a rom-com role.

Thirty years after it was first put to film, When Harry Met Sally is still thought of as one of the most iconic rom-coms created for the big screen. Whether it will live on in the minds of movie lovers for the next 30 years remains to be seen, but for now you can catch it on Blu-ray, DVD or Digital or wait for the Fathom Event this winter.

Crimes Of Grindelwalds Nagini Has All The Same Questions As You

Crimes Of Grindelwalds Nagini Has All The Same Questions As You

This is an exciting (but also confusing) time to be Claudia Kim, who landed the key role of Nagini in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Harry Potter fans are very familiar with Lord Voldemort's Horcrux snake -- or at least we thought we were. Now that we're meeting Nagini as a young woman prior to her snake turn, however, we have questions that need answering in the next movies. Turns out, Kim has the same questions, such as these.

Does she speak Parseltongue? Does she discover that ability, or ...? How does she meet Tom Riddle? All of the same things that the fans are wondering.

Claudia Kim posed these questions to J.K. Rowling's official Pottermore site on the red carpet of the film's Paris premiere. It's clear she's eager to delve into Nagini's backstory and connect the dots between the character we meet in the second Fantastic Beasts movie and the one we know later in the Harry Potter books and films.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for this movie, and she's writing all five planned Fantastic Beasts films. She'd only recently revealed that Nagini was actually a "Maledictus," a carrier of a blood curse leaving the person (always a woman) destined to permanently turn into a beast.

Previews for Crimes of Grindelwald show Nagini's closeness to Ezra Miller's Credence Barebone, so we know they have a connection. But this film is set in 1927, and the final Harry Potter story already revealed that Neville Longbottom kills Nagini (and Moldy Voldy's Horcrux inside her) during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998.

So there's a lot of story to cover in those years. As Claudia Kim noted, she at some point must meet Tom Riddle Jr., who later becomes the self-styled Lord Voldemort. Riddle's official Pottermore birthday is December 31, 1926. So he's clearly a lot younger than our Nagini, whose life as a snake is apparently very long.

Does she learn Parseltongue immediately when she turns into a snake? Is that how she bonds with Tom Riddle, who told Albus Dumbledore that snakes find him and talk to him? We hope Claudia Kim and viewers get answers in any of the next several films.

That said, J.K. Rowling had previously told Variety her five-film series would span 19 years -- from the 1926 of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to, presumably, the legendary 1945 duel between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. So Tom Riddle would be about 19 at the end of this story, and it's not clear yet if he will have a role in the final film. But Nagini is here now, so we'll at least start following her story.

J.K. Rowling has already taken heat from some fans for adding this new Nagini twist. She's also facing questions for another potential canon issue with Professor McGonagall. Plenty of fans and critics have already seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but they are sworn to protect the secrets until we all get to play.

Fantastic Beasts 2 will arrive with its new twists and questions on November 16, and Fantastic Beasts 3 is expected to be released in theaters in 2020.

We didn't get to learn a lot about Nagini in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, other than the fact that she has had a rough life and being a Maledictus is a terrible fate.

20 Iconic '90s Movies That Bring On The Nostalgia

20 Iconic '90s Movies That Bring On The Nostalgia
Space Jam Bill Murray and Michael Jordan huddle with the Looney Tunes

2019 marks the last year that will see a wave of 20 year anniversaries to the most beloved films of the 1990s. Over the past decade, the celebrations of nostalgia have been strong for that last decade of the 20th century, and with the movies it produced, there’s no surprise that it’s been as strong as this crop we’ve seen.

The 20 movies we’re about to run down are probably the most memorable of the decade, and one of the most diverse lineups you could ever expect. If you really want to max out the nostalgia factor, feel free to read this on your old PC, running a dial-up modem connection, and popping open a can of Pepsi Twist. But it’s perfectly fine if you proceed on a modern rig, as nostalgia reads true through any screen.

Space Jam

The perfect triangle of ‘90s love came together when they created Space Jam. Nostalgia for the Looney Tunes, admiration of Michael Jordan’s legendary sports career, and a killer hit soundtrack are the building blocks for this favorite of kids who grew up watching it. Throw in some comedic references of the era it was created for, and you’ve got a movie so perfect for its time, it could have been President.

Forrest Gump

It’s starting to look like the ‘90s were the era of nostalgia themselves, as another memorable hit of the decade was director Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump. A movie so heartfelt and bittersweet it made many an audience member teary with emotion, Tom Hanks’ protagonist makes his way through history in a way that made adults fond of their youth, and their children fond of this film. Sometimes life is like a box of chocolates, and when you’re crying over some of the stuff Forrest goes through, chocolate helps.

Titanic

You can hear it, can’t you? The penny whistle melody. The waves on the ocean. Kate Winslet’s voice amazed at the fact that she’s flying. Titanic is already engrained in your memories if you’re reading this list, and you don’t even have to be a child of the ‘90s to have that fate. Between the long lasting scientific debates, the box office records, and even the hit single that Celine Dion provided for the film, director James Cameron’s mammoth epic was the ship of dreams for many who saw it in its initial theatrical run, as well as all who saw it on home video.

Pulp Fiction

If Reservoir Dogs was the warning shot that started Quentin Tarantino’s career, then Pulp Fiction was the full barrage of gunfire that finished the job. With interwoven plots in the same universe, multiple lines of insanely quotable dialogue, and Tarantino’s unique brand of dark gallows humor, audiences latched onto this film almost instantly. We’re betting that golden briefcase Marcellus Wallace was after contained pure box office magic.

The Lion King

Just as Titanic almost instantly sets the scene once its name is invoked, you can practically see the opening of The Lion King once it has been dropped in conversation. A crowning achievement in Disney’s renaissance, it taught kids life lessons about responsibility, entertained them with catchy songs, and probably traumatized a lot of kids with Mufasa’s death due to wildebeest stampede. Some circle of life.

Jurassic Park

People love dinosaurs, and science has proven this fact time and time again. But when Jurassic Park came out in 1993, even the bullish of speculators probably couldn’t guess how big director Steven Spielberg’s dino theme park would become. CGI had its first big success at the movies, and everyone got to see an adventure that was not only 65 million years in the making, but also worth every day of the wait.

The Silence of the Lambs

The biggest thing that audiences tend to forget when talking about The Silence of The Lambs is that Clarice Starling is actually the lead character in the film. That’s not a knock towards Jodie Foster’s portrayal of the hero from Thomas Harris’ best-selling novel, but rather that’s a comment on just how chilling Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lecter hit home with audiences of the era. Lecter’s still as creepy and brilliant now as he was then, but over time, it’s been easier to see just how amazing Foster’s green, but tenacious FBI agent compliments it.

The Matrix

It began with a cryptic Super Bowl ad, asking one crucial question: “What is The Matrix?” A couple short months later, the answer would be clearer than ever: it was a cultural goldmine. Mixing the influences of anime, kung fu movies, and philsosophy, The Wachowskis set the world on fire with their tale of an epic war between man and machine. They also made a name for themselves as filmmakers who weren’t afraid to get weird with their product, and helped make Keanu Reeves into an action superstar.

The Big Lebowski

Bowling kind of lost its cool for a little while in the ‘90s, with the sport being relegated to something that only dads did. Then along came The Big Lebowski, which introduced The Dude, the man who made it all cool again. A stoner/slacker who took life one moment at a time, and loved to roll some thunder on the lanes, his beloved sport gained some cool points during his caper to untangle himself from the troubles of someone with the same name. So now when you think of bowling, you think of Jeff Bridges slinging a ball down a lane, a White Russian at the ready, with some Creedence in the tape deck. You could do worse if that’s your sport’s image.

The Shawshank Redemption

Some stories feel like they started as fairy tales, but found themselves molded into something adults could take to heart themselves. The Shawshank Redemption is one such story, as Stephen King crafted a world that very much took place in our own reality, but saw Andy Dufrense go through perils not unlike any prince or princess in all of literature. Seeing writer/director Frank Darabont’s classic go from theatrical flop to absolute classic, all thanks to old school video stores, felt as good as watching Andy emerge from the sewers.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

James Cameron ruled the ‘80s with Terminator and Aliens being his huge efforts in that particular decade, but that wasn’t enough. And before he could even set himself up to rule the world with Titanic, Cameron entered the decade with a sci-fi classic that would forever define him: Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Turning the T-800 into a good guy was only the start, as James Cameron similarly transformed a grim and violent franchise into a meditation on fate, time travel, and personal responsibility. But boy, was it still violent as ever!

Scream

Speaking of reinvention, Wes Craven had a crack at turning a table near and dear to himself when he made Scream. A post-modern slasher film, Craven used his skills as a horror professional, teamed up with writer Kevin Williamson’s hip script, and created some new nightmares for the kids of that era. While Ghostface is a more grounded evil than Freddy Kruger, it’s certainly as memorable, as you could still quiz people about the rules of a horror film and they’d probably be able to answer correctly.

Mrs. Doubtfire

Divorce isn’t an easy subject to discuss in any context, especially when humor and heavy prosthetic makeup are involved. Yet both are key ingredients to just why Mrs. Doubtfire works as a movie, as not only does Robin Williams navigate the laughs with perfect timing, he also works with Sally Field to ground the reality of their failed marriage. It’s funny, but knows when to take itself seriously; much as it’s a dramatic film that knows how to balance the fun with the tears.

Beauty And The Beast

Around the same time The Disney Store started to invade your local mall, Beauty and The Beast made its way into theaters across the world. This tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, was so big of a hit that it landed a nomination for Best Picture, in an era with no Best Animated Film category. And after you saw Belle and her Beast fall in love for the first time, there was the Disney Store, waiting to offer you a pre-order for the film on VHS, and some cute merch you could wear to school the next day.

Clueless

If you ever wanted to study the ‘90s as a cultural era, you basically need to throw Clueless into the fold. The clothes, the slang, and the usage of pop culture to adapt a story as classic as Jane Austen’s Emma are all hallmarks of the decade, and Alicia Silverstone’s Cher is the perfect icon to represent each of those aspects it embodies. Also, if you want proof that Paul Rudd is ageless, watch Clueless right before you see Avengers: Endgame. You’ll start forming your own theories once that’s in the noggin.

Independence Day

Will Smith has seen his share of interesting creatures, and Independence Day was the first time he actually got to whoop some otherworldly ass on the big screen. As part of an all star ensemble that included Jeff Goldblum, and a very young Mae Whitman, he was one of the last lines of defense against invading forces hellbent on ruining our planet. While the entire ensemble had their own memorable moments, it's hard to argue against Smith being an MVP, as this film helped catapult him into box office royalty; as well as started his career in alien relations.

Hocus Pocus

Some movies don't hit automatically, but once they get to VHS, they soar. The Shawshank Redemption saw that sort of fate, and to a certain extent, so did Hocus Pocus. As a tepidly reviewed film in its initial release, the Disney spooktacular would go on to become a Halloween staple for all who remembered growing up with it. This only helped future generations find their way to the antics of the Sanderson Sisters, and the lesson of what happens when you let a virgin light a black flame candle on Halloween. You'd think the fact that it's a black flame would scare people away from even trying to light that special candle.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

If it wasn't for the quirky pet detective that Jim Carrey inhabited in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, who knows if his rise to fame would have ever happened? While playing a lot of fun and memorable characters on TV's In Living Color, Carrey really took off once he started palling around with animals, solving crime with Courtney Cox and Tone Loc, and snooped around all of Miami to find a missing mascot. Would he have been a star without the film? We're not sure, and we're al-righty with not finding out that particular cosmic truth.

Seven

Another question that drove moviegoers crazy throughout the decade was “What’s in the box?” Whether it be repeated mockingly, or with serious intent, director David Fincher left the world on a hell of a cliffhanger by the time Seven came to a close. Watching Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman doing their best detective work helped usher in Fincher as a talent to watch out for, but also gave us one of the best mystery stories to be told in such a bleak and grim manner.

Men in Black

Over 20 years ago, Agent J and Agent K defended Earth from the worst scum in the universe, as Men in Black made Will Smith the king of the 4th of July box office for a spell. With a deft hand mixing the tones of comedy and drama into the story of a top secret organization sworn to monitor and fight extraterrestrial activity, and some really good casting at work putting Smith alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Men in Black is a movie that’s so fun to revisit, it’s almost as if you’re watching it for the first time.

And those are the 20 classics that, we feel, bring the most nostalgia to the table. Of course, nostalgia is pretty subjective, and the '90s were so big that there's plenty of films that might feel left out. So if you've got a particular favorite that isn't on our list of the most memory making films of that decade, send 'em our way in the comments below. It's as good a time as any to have a nostalgia party, so don't be shy and share away!

Epcot Is No Longer The Second Most Visited Park At Disney World

Epcot Is No Longer The Second Most Visited Park At Disney World

Epcot was the second theme park opened at Walt Disney World in the early 1980s and even after two other parks have been built, it has still been the second most visited location at the resort, until now. New attendance numbers for 2017 reveal that for the first time Disney's Animal Kingdom surpassed Epcot as the second most visited location at Walt Disney World, behind the Magic Kingdom. The reason for the Animal Kingdom becoming so popular is fairly obvious, Pandora: The World of Avatar.

The newest major expansion of Walt Disney World was the opening of the new land based on the Avatar films which took place in 2017. Guests apparently really wanted to check out the new rides, as WDW News Today reports that Disney's Animal Kingdom's attendance went up 15% year over year, an increase of almost 2 million visitors. This makes the Animal Kingdom the second biggest destination at Walt Disney World and the fifth most visited Disney Parks location in the world.

This is the first time Epcot has fallen from the number two spot which means that even the year that Disney's Animal Kingdom opened, it wasn't visited by enough people to overtake Epcot. That's a bit surprising, but it's good news for Disney that the investment in Avatar is paying dividends. The land is designed to be a visual recreation of the planet Pandora from the Avatar films and contains two new ride experiences, The Na'vi River Journey, which sends guests floating down a calm waterway to view the bioluminescent plant life of Pandora while also checking out the local wildlife, and Flights of Passage, which puts guests on the back of a banshee and sends them soaring through the skies above the planet.

It will be interesting to see how the attendance numbers shake out this year. Toy Story Land is about to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios which will certainly give that location an attendance boost but not nearly as much as it will get next year when Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opens there. There's a safe bet that Hollywood Studios will become one of the more visited Disney Parks locations for at least a year or two after that happens.

Epcot itself may not become as popular again until 2021, when Walt Disney World celebrates its 50th anniversary. By then a new Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster will have opened up, along with a new space-themed restaurant and likely other enhancements.

The good news is that if you absolutely love Epcot, and with all the great restaurants in the World Showcase, you should, it's less crowded, at least by comparison, so it's the perfect time to check it out. The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival starts August 30th.
