How Chris Evans Kind Of Spoiled Captain America’s Avengers: Endgame Fate
Captain America's fate in Avengers: Endgame

Spoilers ahead for anyone who still hasn’t caught Avengers: Endgame yet.

Ahead of the premiere of Avengerse: Endgame, Chris Evans and some of his fellow Avengers pals went to Shanghai where they participated in a fan event that included a Q&A component. The question Evans was asked had to do with the Time Stone and what Steve Rogers would do if he had unfettered access to the stone. Evans said:

If I had the Time Stone, I think Steve Rogers would be interested in pursuing a relationship with Peggy Carter. Honestly, the Time Stone, if he can go anywhere, I mean, he's a man out of time, he's had to reconcile the fact that he's not from this place and Peggy Carter really represents a love.

Alright, have you seen Avengers: Endgame yet? If you haven’t yet, now’s a good time to exit. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya twice.

In this context, Chris Evans is answering a question specifically about the Time Stone and in the movie the group leapt into the past via the Quantum Realm, through the use of Pym Particles, and kept on track through a nifty device that was created by Tony Stark.

But it certainly toes the spoiler line regarding what actually happens in Avengers: Endgame.

That’s because at the end of the movie, Cap does ultimately opt to alter his timeline and head into the past. He returns all of the Infinity Stones to the points where the Avengers borrowed them after returning the trillions lost during the snap back into existence. When he’s finished, instead of heading back to the Avengers’ present, he returns to Peggy Carter in the past to resume the life he has always yearned for.

At the very end of the movie, after all the time travel is done, Steve Rogers shows up, now an old man, and cedes Cap's shield to Sam, who will be the new Captain America moving forward.

It’s a sentimental and lovely ending, particularly thanks to a shot of Steve and Peggy dancing, and it wraps up the MCU’s first 10 years rather neatly. Still, Chris Evans plays with fire a little bit here with his answer, and I wonder if Kevin Feige was sweating a little on the other end of the stage. Of course, we've known forever that Steve Rogers longed for Peggy after being unfrozen. However, his comment is pretty damn close to Endgame’s ultimate ending.

Although, if you were to ask the audience at the Shanghai event, which happened before the movie premiered, they were less pleased about the Peggy Carter answer than they would have been about someone like Bucky. At one point while Chris Evans was answered, a Bucky chant was started by the crowd, and Evans responded, noting,

Hey, Bucky is my boy, I gotta lot of love for Bucky, but you know, something about Steve Rogers at least I’ve been able to reconnect with Bucky. Peggy’s a lost love.

These days, she’s actually a lost and found love.

Catch Avengers: Endgame for a second round in theaters as the movie starts heading to the $2 billion mark. Or, take a look at what we know about what’s coming in Marvel’s Phase Four.

Bond 25 Is Already Breaking New Ground For The Franchise

Bond 25 Is Already Breaking New Ground For The Franchise

The James Bond franchise is one of the longest running in history, but there are things even it has never done before. However, the new film, the 25th in the series, is breaking new ground by becoming the fist in the series to shoot scenes on IMAX cameras. Director Cary Fukunaga confirmed the use of the cameras designed for the large format screen via Instagram.

The comment from the director that "some days" are IMAX days confirms previous reports that only some of the new James Bond film will be shot on IMAX cameras, but that's par for the course for your average blockbuster these days. While IMAX cameras are getting used more and more, it's largely only for specific sequences that can take full advantage of the format.

If you're a fan of the IMAX format, or James Bond, and especially if you're a fan of both, this will likely be great news. Large format screens like IMAX take the normal theatrical experience and amplify it to an entirely new level. While many modern blockbuster movies can be, and are, formatted to an IMAX screen, using a camera designed for that screen makes the experience noticeably better.

While the IMAX cameras might be new for James Bond, they're not new for cinematographer Linus Sandgren. The man in charge of filming Bond 25 was also the man behind the camera of First Man, which used IMAX cameras to film the iconic moon walking scenes, which we can all agree were the best parts of that movie.

Of course, while we can now be sure that the action sequences will look amazing in the new James Bond movie, we still have no idea what any of them could be. The main cast of the new film, which will include Rami Malek as the villain, was recently confirmed, but that's nearly all we know.

The basic plot of Bond 25 will see James coming out of retirement to assist his old friend CIA agent Felix Lighter in a search for a missing scientist.

James Bond has been the home to some of the most memorable action sequences in the history of film. In the Daniel Craig era alone we have had fantastic foot chases, hand-to-hand fights, gun battles, and car chases. Each new film in the series has to try to take things to the next level and while it's not always easy, it's almost always worth watching.

I don't often go to IMAX movies but part of the reason for that is that it doesn't always seem all that necessary. However, when a movie uses IMAX cameras to shoot it usually means there's a vision for a particular sequence that requires them. If there's a reason to film in IMAX, then there's probably also a reason to view the finished product in IMAX.

Are you more likely to see Bond 25 in IMAX knowing it was filmed that way? Let us know in the poll below.

How If Beale Street Could Talk Reminds Regina King Of A Classic TV Show

How If Beale Street Could Talk Reminds Regina King Of A Classic TV Show
if beale street could talk

If you've seen If Beale Street Could Talk then you know that it's one of the most original love stories ever put on the big screen. The film focuses on Tish Rivers (KiKi Layne), a 19-year-old pregnant woman whose life long friend and now fiancé, Fonny (Stephan James) has been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. As we follow Tish and Fonny's love story, we also see the efforts of Tish and her family to prove Fonny's innocence as the young couple struggles to keep their love alive through near impossible circumstances.

While the movie is far from a comedy, it turns out that Oscar-winning star Regina King, who plays Tish's mom Sharon, actually feels that the strong family bonds exemplified by the Rivers family (which is also comprised of Colman Domingo as dad Joseph and Teyonah Parris and sister Ernestine) remind her of those of a popular sitcom family from a classic show. Here's what King had to say:

The Rivers family is a family that exists, but even now, in 2018 when this comes out, we don't get the opportunity to see that family; where the father is there and the mother is there, and the children. You know Good Times? It's like that. That was a [TV] family in the '70s. They were poor, but there was a lot of laughter in the home, music in the home. I always say the Rivers are very similar to the Evans family!

I have to say, as I was watching the special features on the Blu-Ray for If Beale Street Could Talk (which is out now), I was very surprised to find that Regina King could make any comparison between the Rivers family in this sad, yet hopeful and lyrical love story and the Evans family from Good Times, which ran from 1974 through 1980 on CBS. But, after seeing how King manages to make the connection I can certainly understand how she came to such a conclusion.

As King mentioned, the Rivers and Evans families both share an easy closeness and are capable of having lots of fun with each other. Both families also deal with poverty and the dire circumstances that can cause, especially when things go wrong, but each group is also completely dedicated to supporting its members and showering them with as much love as possible to help them get through all the trials that life throws at them.

As you might imagine, getting a cast together that feels like a real family can be difficult, and director Barry Jenkins, who spoke about If Beale Street Could Talk during the same featurette, explained how the cast became like a real family during shooting.

Filming it, it was really important in the casting process to cast these actors who could literally, legitimately, you know, become a family. So, casting Regina King and Colman Domingo and Teyonah Parris, like, if you were on set with us you would see they all kind of huddled around KiKi, because this is KiKi's first role. She was literally the baby of the family.

No wonder the positive feelings of love and never-ending support for one another, no matter the situation, came through so well in If Beale Street Could Talk. If you want to check the movie out for the first time, or give it another watch, it's available right now on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD.

Deadpool's Rob Liefeld Tried To Get Russell Crowe To Play Cable, It Did Not Go Well

Deadpool's Rob Liefeld Tried To Get Russell Crowe To Play Cable, It Did Not Go Well

When the Deadpool sequel was looking for a Cable a lot of names were brought up. One of those names was Russell Crowe, but the overture suggesting he look at the part did not go well. Rob Liefeld recently spoke about the time he tweeted at Russell Crowe suggesting he read for the part. While the Twitter conversation had issues of its own, it turns out Liefeld got an earful from his own manager as well as some higher-ups at Fox for the move, as he'd accidentally insulted Russell Crowe. According to Liefeld...

One night before I went to bed, I didn't know Russell Crowe was on Twitter, and I stupidly tweeted to Russell Crowe -- not ever thinking he'd answer me -- and I go 'Hey Russell, you should read for Cable!' That didn't turn out very well, I got yelled at a lot, because I woke up, because he's in Australia, to Russell Crowe saying 'Read for it?' And my manager said 'Yeah, Russell Crowe doesn't read for parts. Rob, you kind of insulted him. I'm like 'I'm sorry. They just haven't picked Cable yet so I'm just putting it out there.' And then my phone rings, so some Fox people may or may not have yelled at me for an hour.

The first part of this story we had seen because we wrote about the tweets that went back and forth between Rob Liefeld and Russell Crowe back in February of 2017. We saw Liefeld apologize for his language at the time, realizing that suggesting Russell Crowe audition for a role was potentially insulting, but we hadn't heard about the rest of the story, which Liefeld revealed at the Amazing Comic-Con in Las Vegas (via Collider), which included Fox executives calling Liefeld to ask him exactly what in the blue hell he thought he was doing. This is the downside of social media being such a public and instantaneous method of communication.

Clearly, this was just a bad choice of phrase from a guy who, while he's been much more involved in Hollywood in recent years, isn't exactly a high powered big shot. If Rob Liefeld had suggested that Russell Crowe "meet with Fox" about playing Cable, he would essentially have been saying the same thing he tried to say before, but without using wording that had the potential to upset a guy who is known for having something of a short temper.

We'll never know if there was any real potential for Russell Crowe to play Cable. What we do know at this point is that it doesn't really matter because Josh Brolin was cast in the role and he knocked it out of the park. The right guy was clearly found for the part. Brolin probably didn't have to read for it either.

Why Didn't Anyone Go See Missing Link?

Why Didn't Anyone Go See Missing Link?
Missing Link

There's all this talk about Hellboy under-performing in its opening weekend -- the hellish, going up in flames jokes write themselves -- taking third place below both Shazam! and Little. But Missing Link would've been happy with such a finish. Instead, it opened in 9th place, even after playing on more screens than fellow newcomers Hellboy, Little, and After.

Missing Link only made $5.8 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. That's the lowest opening yet for Laika. The stop-motion animated adventure -- starring the voice talents of Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, and Zoe Saldana -- had been tracking for $8 million-$12 million, per THR. That's still not a wow, but this is worse.

So what happened?

Sometimes you can look to reviews. But not this time. Hellboy, After, and Little were all trounced by critics, with 15%, 13%, and 49% respective Rotten Tomatoes scores. Missing Link, on the other hand, has an 89% RT score with a still positive 74% audience score. Missing Link also earned a B+ CinemaScore from moviegoers polled opening night. That's the same score as Little, and higher than After's B and Hellboy's C.

So it wasn't bad reviews, which was probably a factor in turning people away from Hellboy. With Missing Link, I'd wager lack of publicity was a factor. I may not have been the target audience, but I saw very few ads for this movie. Then again, I could say the same for the romantic drama After, which opened above Missing Link with $6.2 million from 2,138 screens. That's a thousand fewer screens than Missing Link, which opened in 3,413 theaters.

Missing Link actually opened in about a hundred more theaters than Hellboy, and nearly a thousand more than Little. It had fewer than Shazam! but the per-screen average for Missing Link was only $1,712, vs. $5,838 for Shazam! this week, $5,811 for second place Little, and $3,638 for Hellboy.

Expect a lot of chatter about the Hellboy reboot and what that could mean, but I'm wondering what this could mean for the studio behind Oscar-nominated films Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings. Maybe the international box office will help.

None of the Laika films have been blockbusters, but worldwide Coraline made $124.6 million in 2009, with $75M of that from the domestic box office. Subsequent films made a bit less money, per Box Office Mojo. Kubo and the Two Strings has the lowest total so far with $69.9 worldwide -- $48M from domestic -- after its opening in 2016. Missing Link looks to be on track to end with less.

Missing Link could be one of those films that picks up as it goes along, but with Avengers: Endgame coming April 26, there isn't much time to build momentum. That thing is going to take over all screens. As we wait to see what happens from here, be sure to come back to CinemaBlend to check out our weekend box office roundup, and bookmark our 2019 movie schedule to keep up with everything headed to theaters this year.

Shazam! Director Details The Alternate Opening And Ending

Shazam! Director Details The Alternate Opening And Ending
Shazam and Doctor Sivana

Warning: SPOILERS for Shazam! are ahead!

It’s been almost two months since Shazam! first hit theaters, which means it’s now winding down its run on the big screen. However, once that’s complete, you’ll be able to pick up the World’s Mightiest Mortal’s first movie on home media, and among the special features that will be included are an alternate opening and an alternate ending.

For those who need a refresher, Shazam! began in 1974, showing how the young Thaddeus Sivana was brought to the Rock of Eternity by The Wizard Shazam, but deemed unworthy to serve as the Wizard’s champion because he was tempted by the Seven Deadly Sins. Right after being sent back Earth, Thaddeus, his father and brother were caught in a car accident that crippled Daddy Sivana.

Here’s what Shazam! director David F. Sandberg had to say about the movie’s alternate opening that will be available to fans on Twitter:

In the original opening an elevator takes Thad to the Rock of Eternity. We did the car crash instead to have a more dramatic opening to the film. Thad also sees a hologram with some Sin backstory, similar to Billy.

While Thaddeus Sivana being brought to the Rock of Eternity via an elevator is reminiscent of how Billy Batson was brought there through a subway train, the car crash was definitely the more jarring approach, as initially it looked like the Sivana family avoided being struck by one car, only to be hit out of nowhere by another. As far as the origins of the Seven Deadly Sins go, the movie provided a reasonable amount of background on them, so throwing in a little extra for the Young Sivana might have been too much.

As for Shazam!’s ending, the main story wrapped up with the Shazam-ified Billy Batson and his new friend Superman having lunch at school with Freddy Freeman and their adoptive siblings. But after that, the mid-credits scene showed the incarcerated Sivana being visited by Mister Mind, who was briefly shown when Sivana visited the Rock of Eternity as a kid, but had been freed by the time Billy Batson was brought to the Wizard’s liar.

On the off chance they weren’t satisfied with the sinister caterpillar’s appearance, David F. Sandberg and his team had a backup plan, with Sandberg revealing:

The alternate ending was a backup we shot in case the cameo at the end didn’t work. The alternate had all the kids transform and fly off to stop a hostage situation.

It’s unclear what David F. Sandberg specifically meant by if Mr. Mind’s cameo “didn’t work,” but regardless, that didn’t end up being a concern. That being said, seeing the Shazam Family foil a crime together would have clarified to those unfamiliar with the comics that Freddy, Mary, Pedro, Eugene and Darla permanently retained their powers, as opposed to their time as superheroes being a one-time thing.

While Shazam! didn’t make nearly as big of a splash at the box office as Aquaman did, it received a lot of positive reviews, and Warner Bros has a sequel in development. While it will be a while until we learn specific plot details concerning Shazam! 2, but it’s a good bet that it will involve Sivana and Mr. Mind getting up to nefarious shenanigans.

You can purchase Shazam! on Digital HD on July 2, and the Blu-ray and DVD copies will hit shelves on July 16. If you’re wondering what the DC Extended Universe has coming up, look through our handy guide.

Sounds Like Sylvester Stallone Might Not Be Done With Rocky After All

Sounds Like Sylvester Stallone Might Not Be Done With Rocky After All
Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa at the boxing ring in Creed II

Sylvester Stallone seemed to retire as Rocky after Creed II, but maybe he's already rethinking that idea. Sly is at Cannes promoting Rambo V: Last Blood, and talking about his career to date. The conversation turned to Rocky Balboa, and it was noted that Stallone had said he had no immediate plans to continue with Creed. Why not? Well, that's apparently when he dropped this new idea:

I have a great idea for Rocky. He finds this fella in the country illegally and it becomes a whole thing. It’s like the magician who lost his tricks. You’ve seen everything, but what can be different? Throw him out of the country, he’s in another world.

I can't say I follow exactly where he's going with that, but if Sylvester Stallone says he has another great idea in him for Rocky, hop to it. It worked well for at least two Creed spinoff-sequels, and maybe even a third with or without Rocky. It's possible his comments to the audience, during a career retrospective talk with Didier Allouch (via Deadline), suggested a new fighter for Rocky to train in a new spinoff. No idea, but it's something to keep an eye on if Stallone wasn't just riffing and he really meant it.

Sylvester Stallone also compared the very different heroes of his two R franchises:

Rambo deals with the dark side of nature that most people live with. Rocky is different, he’s more the optimist, there’s optimism and pessimism in these two characters.

Sylvester Stallone's Rambo V: Last Blood title suggests an ending for that franchise too, but you never know. He may come up with a new idea after that movie comes out this September.

Sly already has a 40 Years Of Rocky documentary coming out, so Rocky is still very much in the spotlight after all of these years. Stallone is even still meeting new Rocky fans -- some as young as 9 -- so the franchise still has some life in it, as long as Sly has more stories to tell. But if Creed II really was the end of Rocky's story, well that's a fine ending as well. It just sounds like Sly isn't quite sure he's done.

Sylvester Stallone has a lot going on beyond Rocky and Rambo, including whatever is happening with The Expendables 4, plus his idea for where Cobra could go next. He even took time recently to weigh in on the new plans for Cliffhanger. And he also has Escape Plan: The Extractors coming to Digital/DVD/Blu-ray on July 2.

Rambo 5 opens in theaters September 20. Stay tuned for any Rocky updates if the thoughts pass from Sylvester Stallone's mind onto actual paper for a script.

Sandra Bullock And Other Oceans 8 Cast Members Initially Didnt Think The Movie Would Get Made

Sandra Bullock And Other Oceans 8 Cast Members Initially Didnt Think The Movie Would Get Made

Last decade, George Clooney's Danny Ocean led a gang of talented thieves and cone men on three different heists across the Ocean's movies, but for 2018, it's a different member of the Ocean family leading the charge. For the upcoming Ocean's 8, Danny's sister Debbie, played by Sandra Bullock, will recruit her own team of criminals to pull off a daring jewel heist at the Met Gala, bringing the same comedic tone as its predecessors, but with an all-new cast. However, as Bullock and costar Cate Blanchett acknowledged, early on they had doubts that this movie would ever actually get made. As Bullock and Blanchett explained:

Sandra Bullock: I honestly didn't think it would happen. I thought it was a fun idea ... I didn't at the time think the movie would get made.Cate Blanchett: Two or three years ago this seemed like an impossibility, like how could you possibly get this made? And it's so great that it's being released now. We go, 'Well, of course.' A lot has shifted I think.

Following the release of Ocean's Thirteen in 2007, George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh made it clear that an Ocean's Fourteen would not be made, mainly because they wanted to go out on a high note, although Bernie Mac, one of the main cast members, passed away in 2008. So for a while, it seemed as if the Ocean's series would just be a trilogy, but then came word in 2015 that an all-female spinoff was in the works, and the year after, what we now know as Ocean's 8 assembled its main cast. But as Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett said at the recent Ocean's 8 press conference in New York that CinemaBlend attended, even they were skeptical that the spinoff would see the light of day. Director and co-writer Gary Ross also acknowledged that not only had there ever been an all women-led ensemble of this scale before, but it also took time hooking these actresses in and convincing Warner Bros to put its weight behind the movie. As Ross put it:

I realized that there'd never been this kind of ensemble (there had been a lot of male versions of this), this kind of kick ass ensemble of women coming together like this before and I thought that was easy. And then we went to Sandy [Bullock], and Sandy said, 'Well, if the script doesn't suck and you actually get these people that you hope to get, then I might interested.' Which we took as an absolute yes. Then we went through the very long process of trying to get the movie made that really took three or four years.

Along with Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, Ocean's 8 main lineup includes Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna and Awkwafina, while the rest of the cast will feature Richard Ermitage, James Corden, Dakota Fanning and Damian Young, as well as plenty of celebrity cameos. Assuming the spinoff does well critically and commercially, then perhaps like with the previous Ocean's movies, we'll see more unique heists being pulled off by these ladies on the big screen.

Ocean's 8 will be released in theaters on June 8. If you're interested in finding out what other movies are coming out this year, browse through our 2018 release schedule.

These are just four suggestions for who Gunn should keep around. There's no telling at this point how many characters from the first Suicide Squad will return, if any. Still, it would be a shame to see so many DC characters forgotten about after just one appearance, so hopefully he'll at least use a few familiar faces in Suicide Squad 2.

Aladdin Has Screened, See What People Are Saying

Aladdin Has Screened, See What People Are Saying
Will Smith and Mena Massoud in Aladdin

Disney's animated features are some of the most well loved movies ever made. Many of the recent live-action remakes, while not necessarily hitting that level, have been incredibly successful with fans. The second of three remakes hitting theaters this year is Aladdin and while the movie won't be released here for a couple more weeks, the film has screened for some audiences and the first reactions are now hitting social media.

Overall, the response has been largely positive, though there have been a few caveats in that. One of the big questions that had fans worried was the CGI that turned Will Smith into the big blue Genie. It didn't look all that great in the eyes of many and Digital Spy says that while overall Will Smith is great, the CGI doesn't work. Although, that might not be the worst part of the movie. According to them...

A lavish and enjoyable retelling, but not enough of A Whole New World to fully succeed. Mena Massoud/Naomi Scott are great, while Will Smith brings a fun energy to his take on the Genie, even if the CGI lets him down. The less said about Jafar, the better.

Since they don't say anymore, we don't really know what the issue with Jafar is, but clearly the feeling is he doesn't work in some way.

While Digital Spy isn't in love with Will Smith's CGI Genie, they're one of the few responses to the movie that really calls it out. Most of the reactions on social media are complementary of Smith overall. Joe.ie's Rory Cashin seems to agree that the CGI is a weak link, but he thinks that the movie is otherwise so strong that audiences won't care.

Can confirm that the majority of your concerns about Aladdin, especially anything Will Smith-related, will vanish once that first big song kicks in, but my pick for MVP has got to be Billy Magnussen! He might just be a comedy genius in waiting.

The word that Billy Magnussen is a highlight of the film is certainly interesting news. We know he's playing a brand new character named Prince Anders, but beyond that, we don't really know who the character is or how he fits into the story.

From everything that we've seen, this new version of Aladdin is going to follow all the same beats as the animated original. It's even a full musical, in the same way that the Beauty and the Beast remake was. If that film is any indication, Aladdin could be a massive hit.

If Andrew Jones is to be believed, that's even more possible, as he thinks Aladdin is actually one of the better remakes that Disney has produced, even if it is a little on the long side. According to Jones...

So Aladdin is Disney's second-best recent remake, after Pete's Dragon. Proudly a musical fantasy adventure, the jokes are strong, Smith's Genie is a lot of fun, the human leads work well. It's 20 minutes too long, but works a charm for the entire run.

The most stirring praise, however, may come from the BBC's Haroon Rashid, who compares Aladdin to a great Bollywood movie...

I just watched the new Aladdin movie and it is amazing! It was so good that I forgot my roza had opened. Also if Sanjay Leela Bhansali ever made a Disney film, it would be this! I felt like I was watching a cross between Ram Leela/Bajirao Mastani but without people dying.

The early word seems largely good, and a few hiccups in the CGI likely won't dissuade too many fans if everything else about Aladdin works. We'll find out for ourselves when the movie hits theaters May 24.

Shazam's DVD Release Should Have A Ton Of Extra Footage That Was Cut From The Movie

Shazam's DVD Release Should Have A Ton Of Extra Footage That Was Cut From The Movie
Freddy Freeman and Shazam

Warning: Shazam! SPOILERS are ahead!

Not everything shot for a movie is going to make it into the final cut, but thanks to DVDs, Blu-rays and digital purchases, people can oftentimes watch some, if not most of a production’s deleted scenes. Shazam! will be no exception, because according to Michel Aller, the editor of the sixth DC Extended Universe movie, the home release of Billy Batson’s origin story will be packed with a lot of deleted scenes, including potentially one involving Asher Angel’s Billy and Grace Fulton’s Mary Bromfield. Aller explained:

We had a lot of material. When you buy the DVD, you’ll be able to see, I think we have 20-24 minutes of deleted scenes. And one of the scenes that regretfully we had to pull out was a scene between young Billy and Mary, when he’s about to sneak out. It’s just a really touching scene, but it came so early in the movie, and we were trying to get to get to the Shazam character, that we couldn’t put everything that we liked at the front of the movie. So that was one scene that we pulled out. I’m glad there are DVDs out there so we can show these great scenes.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Michel Aller about Shazam!, and among the topics we discussed was just how much material was cut out of the finished movie. Sure enough, like many other superhero movies before it, Shazam! will have a solid amount of deleted scenes as part of its special feature offerings, and it appear that like there’s a good chance this scene between Billy and Mary will be among them.

Billy Batson and Mary Bromfield have always been siblings in the comics, but as opposed to going the biological route as was the case for decades, the Shazam! movie pulled from Shazam’s New 52 origin story and had her, Freddy Freeman, Eugene Choi, Darla Dudley and Pedro Pena be Billy’s adoptive siblings at the Vasquez household. While Shazam! spent a decent amount of time introducing these new people in Billy’s life, it also had to move relatively quickly to actually bring in Billy’s Shazam persona, and whatever moment Billy and Mary had before the former began his superhero journey ended up on the cutting room floor.

While we didn’t get to see Mary confront Billy as he snuck out during his first night with his new family, Shazam! did still give us a touching moment between the two, albeit with Zachary Levi playing Billy instead, when Shazam saved her from being hit by a truck and tried to console her because she was upset about potentially having to leave her family behind to attend college. And, of course, in the climactic battle, Mary and the other kids were able to also become adult superheroes when Billy shared his power with them.

We’ll have to wait to learn if the Billy/Mary scene will indeed be included on the Shazam! home media release, but another deleted scene Michel Aller expects to be shown is how Sivana originally unleashed the power of the Seven Deadly Sins. Originally he went on his murder spree at a Christmas party being held at his mansion, but during the Shazam! reshoots, the location was changed to a boardroom at Sivana industries. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more information on Shazam! deleted scenes.

Shazam! is still playing in theaters, and if you haven’t already, be sure to read CinemaBlend’s review of the movie. You can also plan your moviegoing visits later this year accordingly by checking out our 2019 release schedule.

Stan Lee Has A Few Marvel Cameos Left

Stan Lee Has A Few Marvel Cameos Left
Stan Lee in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Last November, longtime Marvel Comics heavyweight Stan Lee died at 95, and needless to say it was a heavy blow to the world of comic book media fandom. That said, it didn’t mark the last time we’d see him since months before his passing, Lee filmed/recorded several more of his trademark cameos, including his quick scene in Captain Marvel, which hit theaters this past weekend. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has now clarified that there are still a few Lee cameos left to be shown to the masses. When asked if Lee will appear in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Feige responded:

We'll see. We're heading-- We shot a couple of others, so we're coming up on the last of them, yes.

Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo said shortly after Stan Lee died that the comic book icon did shoot something for Endgame, as it was grouped together with various other MCU cameos that Lee shot during a short period. That said, it’s been unclear if Lee shot anything from Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Feige’s comment to ET is cagey in that regard. That said, an Endgame cameo is definitely on the table, and the fact that Feige said “the last of them” indicates that there’s more than just one cameo to look forward to.

Spider-Man: Far From Home filmed from last July to October in England, New York and several other countries. Stan Lee wasn’t able to travel much in his final years, but as with his other recent cameos, presumably it would have been easy enough to get him to a movie set in California where he could shoot something quick for Far From Home. Nothing’s official yet, but I’m guessing that it’s likelier than not that Lee will have some presence in the next live action Spider-Man movie, whether it’s on screen like all his other past MCU contributions or if he was only able to record a vocal cameo, like what he did for last December’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he played a shopkeeper who interacted with Miles Morales.

Stan Lee already had an extensive cameo resume even before the MCU launched with Iron Man in 2008, but in that particular franchise, he was a regular fixture, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 revealing that he was actually the same character who was keeping tabs on things around Earth and other areas of the galaxy on behalf of The Watchers. Sadly, all things must come to an end, and either Avengers: Endgame or Spider-Man: Far From Home will mark his last film appearance. That said, future MCU movies could take a cue from the Marvel Netflix shows and include a picture of Lee in tribute to the man who helped make Marvel the powerhouse company it is today.

Warning: SPOILERS for Captain Marvel are ahead!

Along with being his second or third-to-last MCU cameo, Captain Marvel was also special for Stan Lee because he was basically playing himself. While Carol Danvers was aboard a train searching for a disguised Skrull, she passed by Lee, who was practicing his lines for Mallrats, Kevin Smith’s second movie which, where Lee had a small, but important role. That movie came out in 1995, the same year Captain Marvel was set. Danvers studied Lee for a moment and then gave a smirk when she realized that he was 100% human.

But that wasn’t the only way that Captain Marvel paid tribute to Stan Lee. The Marvel Studios intro also replaced artwork and clips of its various superheroes with Stan Lee’s various cameos in this franchise over the last decade. Kevin Feige explained how shortly after Lee died, he and others at Marvel Studios were figuring out how to honor Lee and whether it should be something that’s part of a movie or released online. They eventually decided on the former, and rather than attach something “depressing at the end,” Feige settled on something “touching and rousing up front,” hence that heartwarming intro. Feige continued.

I know that, not specifically but in general, a celebration is what Stan always wanted as opposed to any sort of mournful event. So, it happened very, very quickly soon after we got the unfortunate news.. We put that together and our visual development department, led by Ryan Meinerding, illustrated all those illustrations of him that you see, before we then go into the clips.

We may only have a few more Stan Lee appearances left, but because of what the man accomplished through his long life, his characters will live on for decades more. Although Stan Lee didn’t have a hand in creating Carol Danvers, writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan have that honor), he did co-create (with Colan) her comics predecessor, Mar-Vell, who was portrayed by Annette Bening in the Captain Marvel movie.

Captain Marvel was the first MCU movie of 2019, but there’s a lot more to look forward to this year. In less than two months, Avengers: Endgame will pick up where Avengers: Infinity War left off, with half of all life in the universe being wiped out by Thanos and his Infinity Stones-powered fingers. Marvel is still keeping tight-lipped about specific plot details, but we can at least look forward to the surviving heroes banding together to defeat Thanos and undo his genocide. Carol Danvers will be part of this group, and the Captain Marvel mid-credits scene showed her arriving at New Avengers base questioning where Nick Fury was, as before turning to dust, the former S.H.I.E..L.D. director summoned her using his spruced-up pager.

Then in July, Spider-Man: Far From Home will kick off Phase 4 with Peter Parker traveling to Europe over summer vacation. Unfortunately, Peter won’t get a break from his superhero lifestyle during this trip, as Nick Fury will recruit him to fight the Elementals alongside Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio. Since Spider-Man was arguably Lee’s most famous creation, it would be a shame if Far From Home didn’t involve him in some way, so fingers crossed that gets to be his final cameo.

Don’t forget to read CinemaBlend’s review of Captain Marvel, and stay tuned for more updates on the MCU. Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26 and Spider-Man: Far From Home follows on July 5. Jason Momoa Says Aquaman 2 Story Is 'Locked'

Jason Momoa Says Aquaman 2 Story Is 'Locked'
Aquaman smiling before a fight

Last year’s Aquaman finally got Warner Bros.’ DC film franchise back on the right track with a solid critical response and a massive box office performance. While the DCEU’s most successful movie to date won’t be getting a sequel until late 2022, work has already begun on Aquaman 2. In fact, they already know where the sequel will go because the story is locked down, as Jason Momoa explained:

I was really, really, really, passionate, to do the second one because it’s the first time where it’s all on Earth. It’s combining land and sea, kind of like what I’m doing with this [environmental cause]. There’s no outside aliens destroying Earth, it’s us. And so I was excited to get back in there, and so I’ve been working with our previous writer, and getting in there, and we’ve got a locked story, and we’re getting into it. And I think it’s going to be like in two years or whatever. The beard will be back by then.

Jason Momoa sounds quite enthusiastic about returning to the Aquaman role, and although he didn’t give any hints about what it would entail, he did reveal that the story for Aquaman 2 is already ‘locked.’ So although it is still years away, a plan is already in place for what will happen in the sequel to the $1 billion-grossing film.

It also sounds like the sequel could again be primarily focused on Arthur Curry’s story and maybe the relationship between surface dwellers and those above versus extraterrestrial threats. Aquaman was successful with this approach, and with DC’s relaxed stress on cinematic universe connectivity, it makes sense.

We’ve previously heard that Aquaman screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick was returning to pen Aquaman 2, and based on his comments on The Ellen Show, Jason Momoa worked with him to nail down the story. Now all that’s left is to translate that story into a script and turn that into a movie. There’s plenty of time to do that and producer Peter Safran indicated that the approach is to take that time to get things right.

Although Aquaman 2 is a long way off and the story could certainly change, it is encouraging that Jason Momoa can already say that it is locked down. That means that he and those involved have a certain level of confidence with where they want to take the story and the characters. Ideally, that also means that the locked story is a good one.

With Jason Momoa apparently having some input on the story of Aquaman 2, I’ll be curious to see how much of an environmental message it has. While on Ellen, Jason Momoa was promoting his Mananalu water, aluminum-canned water that is recyclable and an alternative to single-use plastic bottles that often wind up in the ocean. He’s really living Aquaman’s mission to protect the oceans and perhaps that message will find its way into the sequel film as well.

Regardless, there are plenty of directions the story of Aquaman 2 could go. Aquaman’s end-credits scene seemed to set up Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin as antagonists in the sequel, and there are of course other comics elements it could draw from as well. Whatever the story is, Jason Momoa will also have his beard back by the time we see it, which is probably for the best.

I imagine we've got a while to go before we find out what Aquaman 2 will be about, but hopefully before long we'll hear whether or not director James Wan is returning, as that is still not entirely clear.

Aquaman 2 dives into theaters on December 16, 2022. However, a new Star Wars movie was just announced for that same date, so we’ll see if Aquaman 2 stays in that spot. For movies arriving just a bit sooner, check out our 2019 Release Schedule.
