Why The Wasp Shouldn't Get Her Own Movie, According To Evangeline Lilly

While team-up movies like Avengers: Infinity War are often the best part of the MCU for fans, the goal for many actors is leading their own solo superhero movie. However, one Marvel actress isn't interested. Evangeline Lilly who plays the Wasp recently admitted that she's not really looking for a Wasp solo movie down the road, as she feels the interaction between her character and Ant-Man is part of what makes Wasp special and fun for her. I like the MCU and I'd like to stay. But I actually don't like the idea of a Wasp standalone film, because Ant-Man and Wasp, since the very beginning in the comic books, were always a team. And really, they're kind of one of the only proper and true teams in the MCU, otherwise it's mostly a lot of individuals. And I love the team aspect of it, I love watching the interplay between Wasp and Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. For me it's the most fun part of the film.

It's true that Ant-Man and the Wasp have been a duo for a long time in the comics, while most of the rest of the current MCU roster is made up of solo heroes who occasionally team up. That's not to say Wasp hasn't been given solo adventures in comics, but they do seem to be more the exception than the rule. Evangeline Lilly told a crowd at Boston Fan Expo (via ComicBook.com), that she's fine with the MCU imitating that strategy on the big screen.

The chemistry between Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne was one of the highlights of the first Ant-Man, even before Evangeline Lilly got to become a superhero herself in Ant-Man and the Wasp and it only got better from there. Lilly herself seems to feel that without that interaction something in her character would be lost.

Of course, that's not to say that Evangeline Lilly is entirely against separating her character from Ant-Man under the right circumstances. She does reveal one scenario under which she'd be more than happy to leave Paul Rudd behind.

So I don't love the idea of breaking them up --- except if there was an all-female Avengers film. Then I'm in.

Seeing an all-female version of the Avengers would be awesome and the Wasp would be necessary. The character was a founding member of the Avengers in the comics and would certainly belong alongside other female MCU heroes like Black Widow and the forthcoming Captain Marvel.

Of course, at this point, when we'll see the Wasp again at all is a bit up in the air. Hopefully, everything will be fine once Avengers 4 is over.

The western genre may not be as popular as it once was, but slowly over the course of the past few years it's been making one hell of a comeback. The latest proof can be found in the trailer to the upcoming film The Sisters Brothers, which sees Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly playing the titular brothers, who hope to achieve their dream of owning their own storefront, courtesy of their various criminal activities. All that may stand in the way is Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed, and some violent, undeniably cool action. You can check out the results for yourself in the trailer below:

Based on Patrick DeWitt's novel of the same name, The Sisters Brothers also co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed, as a pair of men standing in the way of the brothers. Apparently, Ahmed's character, simply referred to as Warm, has stolen a formula that produces a substance that roots out gold deposits in riverbeds. Gyllenhaal's Morris is a prospector looking to keep that for himself, but naturally, Phoenix's Charlie and Reilly's Eli are after this formula, too. The only difference is, the Sisters brothers claim to be pursuing this purloined process in the name of their employer, from whom it was allegedly stolen.

Right off the bat, everyone involved in The Sisters Brothers main cast looks like they're having a blast, especially Joaquin Phoenix. For a man who's been known to be a bit prickly, both on and offscreen, seeing Joaquin Phoenix smiling and joshing with John C. Reilly almost feels like it needs an award created in its honor. Meanwhile, Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed look like another fantastic double act, with Gyllenhaal acting like a sane, but driven, adversary and Ahmed playing the grounded scientific genius at the center of it all.

Now if I know my modern westerns, The Sisters Brothers will probably devolve into some Sam Peckinpah-esque violence, with some characters not making out at the end. If this film was that sort of experience alone, I'd still be looking forward to this movie, but probably wouldn't rush to see it. However, it's the signature blend of semi-Wes Anderson style, humor and slick performances that really makes what I've just seen really shine. To borrow from the film's plot, The Sisters Brothers is hidden gold in a riverbed, and the efforts of director / co-writer Jacques Audilard and his cast are the formula that seems to have found said gold.

For a movie like The Sisters Brothers to jump so far up on my personal watch list, it has to be made of some true grit. And that's just what this movie looks to possess, as this mash-up of vengeance and witty dialogue is the type of thing that makes a movie like this special. Should it stick the landing, don't be surprised if this one manages to make a splash in the awards season madness. The Sisters Brothers saddles up for laughs and lashes this fall, without a specific release date specified. The Controversial Tag Scenes That Really Worried Jake Johnson During Production

Buddy comedies generally tend to keep things light-hearted in nature, which is why Tag feels so different from what we've seen before. The film takes a couple of notably dark turns in its story, with one scene focusing on a potential miscarriage and another revealing that Ed Helms' Hoagie has cancer. I recently talked to Tag star Jake Johnson about these scenes during the Tag press day in Los Angeles, and the New Girl star explained that these scenes concerned him because of the need to balance the tone. Johnson explained:

It was, 'We better do this right, or we're going to get laughed out of the theaters.' But it was that scene, and it was the miscarriage scene, I said, 'We need to have options on these, and you need to test them, because of they don't work the movie does not work at all.' So it was the two sequences I was nervous about, and we shot those a lot, had a lot of different options so that in post-production they could edit it how they wanted and so, in the end, I think they work.

Comedy is all about pushing the envelope, but Tag goes pretty far with those two scenes, and the daring nature of the comedy was not lost on the cast. Jake Johnson was initially concerned over how the audience would respond to the sequences, so he made sure to explain that the cast and crew needed options and different types of takes so they could adjust the tone if necessary. It sounds exhausting, but Johnson thinks that it was the best way to make those scenes work in the end.

Technically speaking, these "options" involved filming the scenes extensively from a wide variety of angles. By doing this, director Jeff Tomsic could create a higher degree of flexibility and adjust the style of the scenes on a dime. For example, if things got too dark in a particular version of the scene, they could go back into their raw footage and pick out reaction shots from any other member of the cast, or lines from different versions of the sequence to add in and lighten things up.
