Terminator 6 Has Found Its First New Lead

Even though Terminator Genisys proved to be a critical and commercial disappointment back in 2015, the killer robot-filled franchise isn't done yet. With Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm and James Cameron producing after more than two decades away from the property he created, the still-untitled Terminator 6 is aiming to offer yet another relaunch the film series in a big way. Along with Arnold Schwarzenegger once again playing a T-800, Linda Hamilton will reprise Sarah Connor, and today brings word that the first new actress for the movie has has been found: Halt and Catch Fire's Mackenzie Davis.

Variety broke the news that Mackenzie Davis is currently in negotiations to join Terminator 6 as one of the lead characters, and THR added in its write-up that she will play a human soldier-assassin on a mission. The actress has also reportedly been Tim Miller's "top choice for a while." The only reason it's taken so long to try to work out a deal with her is because Miller and his team were waiting for James Cameron (who has been busy directing the new Avatar movies) to sign off on it. Along with playing Cameron Howe on AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, Davis' other credits include Black Mirror (the "San Junipero" episode), The Martian, Blade Runner 2049 and the upcoming Tully.

No plot details for Terminator 6 have been revealed yet, but rather than follow up on where Terminator Genisys left off, the new movie will serve as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The search is still on for the actress who will play the movie's main protagonist, filling the same role that Sarah Connor did in the original movies. Terminator 6 is intended to be the first chapter of a new trilogy, though as we saw with Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys, just because a Terminator trilogy is plotted out doesn't mean that the latter two entries will be made.

Judging by the description of this character Mackenzie Davis is being eyed to play, it sounds like Terminator 6 may be presenting a similar scenario as seen in the first Terminator movie: a human comes from the future to protect someone who a Terminator intends to assassinate. While it's possible that Arnold Schwarzenegger will once again play a murderous T-800, given how many times we've seen reprogrammed versions of that model, we can't rule out yet that Schwarzenegger newest T-800 is a good guy, and that a different Terminator has been sent by Skynet/whatever advanced A.I. has laid waste to Earth. Then there's the question of how Sarah Connor fits into the picture. With production scheduled to begin in June, hopefully we'll learn soon just what this latest Terminator entry has in store.

The Terminator 6 script is currently being polished by Billy Ray, and the movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2019.

In desperation, Skynet has sent the Terminator to the present day to murder Sarah and eliminate John Connor's existence. Reese also explains that the Terminator pursuing Sarah, is a new model, one that appears infinitely more human than its predecessors. Reese tells her the android will bleed, sweat and even has bad breath to enhance the disguise.
